Two great productions will show during November and December at Great Plains Theatre.
"Moon Over Buffalo" features Charlotte and George Hay, an acting couple well past their prime, on tour in Buffalo in 1953. The couple has just lost their last chance at stardom--leads in a Frank Capra movie. Add to the mix an almost deaf grandmother/costume mistress and a forgetful weatherman/fiancée and the soup thickens! When the agent calls to say Frank Capra will be attending the matinee, we discover George is missing and the company can't figure out of it's playing Private Lives or Cyrano de Bergerac.
An overwhelming audience favorite! Follow the Biblical saga of Joseph and his eleven brothers through the music of Andrew Lloyd Webber. This colorful retelling of the biblical story about Joseph, his uncanny abilities and his designer coat sings out to young and old alike with a score which is wall to wall hits. A must see event for the entire family! (Rated G)

Book Talk Series Features Stephen Ambrose
The Eisenhower Presidential Library and the Abilene Public Library annual book talk series continues with a panel discussion on historian Stephen Ambrose. The program begins on Nov. 10 at 7 p.m. in the Visitors Center Auditorium at the Eisenhower Presidential Library and Museum.
The author of more than 20 books, Ambrose emerged in the 1990s as one of America's most popular historians. "Given his popularity and name recognition with the general public, it's fair to say Ambrose is the 'people's historian'," said Dr. Jim Leyerzapf who recently retired from the Eisenhower Presidential Library after 37 years of service.
Leyerzapf will appear on the discussion panel along with fellow Library retiree David Haight and Lon Schrader, Director of Public Works for the City of Abilene and avid reader. Those interested in attending the book talk are encouraged to read one of Ambrose's many works, most of which are available at the Abilene Public Library. "We encourage all readers and fans of Stephen Ambrose to join in this discussion," said Judy Burgess, Director of the Abilene Public Library. Future book programs will explore the Eisenhower Era and other aspects of the presidency. |
