Brenda Allison-Gastric Bypass--Lost Over 125 lbs
 
Brenda Allison after picture On 11-23-09 my life changed forever. My weight problems began as a kid. I was the known as the fat kid on the block. I did slim down when I met my husband in 1973, but I never kept it off and have been yoyo dieting ever since. It seems like my biggest problems started after my mother died and they kept coming. My mom had a heart attack brought on by morbid obesity. She was so large that they had a special coffin made for her. Soon after that my Aunt died, my dad had a heart attack, my niece overdosed. It was all more than I could handle and I ended up at West Hills Hospital for a week. I will never forget the day in July of 2010 when I walked past a mirror and saw my mom's reflection and it was me! I knew that I had to do something and made an appointment with Dr. Kozar at Western Bariatric Institute.  Read More.

You've heard and read over and over that protein is important, that protein comes first and that you need to get 65-85 grams of protein daily. You know this. But do you know why? It may be months or years since you attended a seminar or a pre-op class so you may not remember why to focus on protein and eat it first.  Eating protein allows your body to make proteins, which do a lot more than just become muscle. Some functions are: repairing DNA, sustaining a healthy immune system, providing strength to cells, forming muscles and forming hair and nails.
