Patient Spotlight
Wayne and Robin Carter~Gastric Bypass & Gastric Band
A total of 267 lbs lost between them!

Wayne and Robin were childhood sweethearts 37 years ago! Both of them have seen and enjoyed the journey of their gradual weight gain. Life consisted of eating out at fast food restaurants after school, then graduated to wining and dining and clubbing and drinking and then finally marriage and four beautiful babies. Wayne started as a 32/34 pant and Robin was a size 9/10. With 37 years behind them, Wayne was at his largest wearing a size 48 pant and 3xl shirt and Robin was wearing a size 28. They had surgery 6 weeks apart from each other; Wayne had gastric bypass and Robin had Lap-Band surgery. Today they feel so blessed due to the greatest of help from WBI. Both of them are back to their high school sizes. They grew together and lost the weight together. They no longer have diabetes, high cholesterol and shortness of breath. Wayne has achieved a life long dream this year when he umpired the Nevada State 4A Baseball Championship games in Las Vegas. Robin has started her own music management company "Carter Management." The two of them, along with their four children are healthy and enjoying life. "Western Bariatric Institute saved our lives."

Tip and Goal of the Month
By Kristine Shoenberger, WBI Dietitian
Tip of the Month:
Get outside this month and soak up some vitamin D from the sun!
Sunlight is the best source of vitamin D, and this is a vitamin that most of us need more of. Vitamin D helps prevent a host of diseases and conditions, like cancer, osteoporosis and dementia, just to name a few. So get out into the sun for your health! If you aren't in the sun most days, take a daily vitamin D supplement, available at the WBI store.
Goal of the Month: To get more Vitamin D, exercise outside as many days as you can this month- walking, swimming, hiking, canoeing, tennis, rollerblading, anything!
Studies even show that exercising outdoors is not only great for your physical health, it also improves your mental health as well. Outdoor exercise can boost your mood and your energy while decreasing depression, anxiety and anger. So get outside to feel better overall!
