Welcome Marla Salnave
at our front desk!
"I am a native Nevadan. I have always loved working with people and have been very interested in the medical field since I was a child. I somewhat followed my late father's footsteps who was a dedicated and respected Sparks fireman for twenty-seven years. I enjoy spending time with my two boys Mikey, who is twelve and Mitchell who is five. We love anything having to do with horses, quads, and sports. I have a great respect for Western Surgical Group/Western Bariatric Insitute and am very thankful to be a part of the group."

Patient Spotlight
Lisa Lawrence~Lap-Band Surgery-Lost 80 lbs
Today I am down 80 lbs and feel great. Getting the lap-band was like walking through a time warp for me. I feel like I can do anything I want now. Here is my weight loss journey the past four years. I went into my primary physician for a yearly check-up. With that he ordered blood work for me. The next week he called me to go to his office as soon as possible. I went to his office to get my results and he wanted to admit me. I was in shock and completely floored. He had his nurse take my blood sugar in his office and it was not as bad as he thought it was. But of course I had eaten that day unlike when I did the lab work. So I was prompted to check my sugar levels after meals and snacks. As it turns out, I was diagnosed as a borderline diabetic. Tip and Goal of the Month
By Kristine Shoenberger, MS, RD
Tip of the Month:
View treats as just that- treats. They should be special and occasional, not every day.
Treats are not just desserts, or sweet foods. Treats can be anything other than healthy foods- foods you like, but know aren't the best for you, your weight, or your health. Treats can have a place in your lifestyle, but it should be an occasional occurrence. Treats on a daily basis (or several times a day!) just equals a junk-filled diet.
Goal for the Month:
If you bought Girl Scout cookies, set boundaries and guidelines to keep the calories in check.
Girl Scout cookies only come around once a year, but if your pantry is now stocked with 7 boxes of them, the calories can really add up fast. To avoid too many cookie calories at once, see the tip of the month, and set rules for how often, how many, when, and maybe plan on giving some away.
