House Beautiful Kitchen of the Year To Be Unveiled Monday!
Erected in the heart of New York's Rockefeller Plaza directly where the annual Christmas tree stands, the fourth annual House Beautiful "Kitchen of the Year" will be unveiled Monday, July 18 and will be open for tours, tastings, and presentations through Friday, July 22. Belgard Hardscapes had the honor to create the first-ever outdoor component to the annual showcase that was designed by Tyler Florence, renowned chef, Food Network host, and best-selling author. Visitors will have the opportunity to meet Florence during the week-long event.
Florence's custom designed u-shaped outdoor kitchen includes a charcoal grill, brick oven, Kohler sink, Kitchen Aid appliances, Rocky Mountain Hardware backsplash, and two Grotthouse butcher blocks. The outdoor living area includes a fireplace and wrap-around paver patio enclosed by a stone and a Monroe Guardsman wrought iron fence by Merchants Metals.

SEASONAL TIPS: Battling Bugs | |
· Remove standing water in kiddie pools, clogged gutters, unused planters, and the like to avoid creating mosquito hatcheries.
· Keep trash and recycling bins away from gathering areas to avoid attracting flies.
· Citronella torches or lamps cut down on bug activity in about a four-foot radius while burning.
· Fill your garden with mosquito-repelling plants like citronella grass, rosemary, catnip, or marigolds.

A Sneak Peek at the Outdoor Kitchen of the Year
Photos of the showcase "Kitchen of the Year" cannot be released yet, but pictured above are sneak peeks at some of the design elements used to create Tyler Florence's custom outdoor kitchen. The focal point of Tyler's outdoor kitchen is the wood-burning brick oven. Garden planters and fence columns were built using rough-hewn Weston Wall garden wall pavers. A gas burning fireplace with matching wood box adds cozy warmth to the wrap-around porch. The paver patio is a combination of slate-textured Mega Lafitt and flagstone-shaped Mega-Arbel, trimmed with Urbana.
