SEASONAL TIP
Cleaning Tips for Gas Grills | |

To avoid build up, consider prepping grates prior to turning on the grill with a non-stick spray especially designed for grills, which are available in the baking aisle of the supermarket. Or, once the grill is warm, use a towel and coat with vegetable oil. After cooking, turn up the heat to burn off excess food particles and drippings. Once the grill cools, and while still warm, use a stiff wire brush to remove encrusted particles. Periodically remember to remove the grates and clean the burners, as well. Cast iron grates require a regular coating of vegetable oil to keep them seasoned.

Trends in Outdoor Kitchens
With home sales down and gas prices up, homeowners continue to look for new ways to improve their quality of life without leaving their home. According to Joe Raboine of Harmony Outdoor Living, manufacturers of the Belgard Elements product line, homeowners are trending away from simple grill islands and towards full-service outdoor kitchens.
Current trends include:
- Alternate cooking options: brick ovens, Green Eggs, and double or single side burners.
- Refrigeration: outdoor refrigerators, wine coolers, roll-top coolers, built-in ice chests, ice makers, and kegerators.
- Specialty components and accessories: sinks, lighting, sound systems, and paper-towel holders.
- Storage options: trash drawers, utility drawers, and propane tank holders.
- Bar ledge upgrades to add dining and gathering space.
"Homeowners are not just looking for a cooking surface, but an entertainment area," says Raboine. "If we get the dimensions of the items you'd like to incorporate, we can put modules together or add cutouts to create a kitchen that will not only meet, but exceed your expectations."
