Belgard Design Studio Brings Backyard Makeover to Life

Often, the most difficult aspect of designing a backyard makeover involves visualizing the end result. For homeowners Pierre and Christi Simoneaux of Covington, LA, the Belgard Design Studio helped bring life to their outdoor makeover plans. After making some initial design decisions, photos of the yard and basic sketches were submitted to the Design Studio to be converted into 3-D images.

 

"I was blown away by the quality of the graphics and detail, down to the color of my shutters and the shape of my pool," explained Christi Simoneaux. "We were able to see exactly how the pavers and design elements would look and even made a number of changes that we wouldn't have realized were needed if we hadn't had the 3-D renderings. Some of what we pictured in our heads would not have worked well in real life."

SEASONAL PAVER CLEANING TIP

 

Have your concrete pavers developed a white hazy look? Due to moist conditions and other environmental factors, concrete's internal soluble salts are often naturally exposed to the air, creating a white coating called efflorescence. Cleansing with water and a brush (or a power washer) typically does the trick. If the efflorescence is thick, however, try a specially formulated paver cleaner like Paver Primer by Techniseal® or EC Efflorescence Cleaner by Techniseal® (read all label precautions). The appearance of efflorescence gradually decreases over time and will typically stop altogether after about 19 to 24 months, depending on the environment.

PROJECT #1: Back Porch Patio and Bar

Project 1

The homeowners' goals of creating a space more conducive to entertaining were achieved by expanding their current patio and adding a bar from the Belgard Elements Collection. The addition of the Mega Lafitt® paver patio bordered by Old World pavers created an outdoor dining room in an area that was seldom used because of terrible drainage.

 

PROJECT #2: Cabana Grill and Patio

The cabana was a recently built addition to the home involving the conversion and expansion of a former detached garage. Access to the new cabana bathroom and utility room was created with the addition of a curved Mega Lafit® paver patio bordered by Old World pavers. The open-gable porch offered adequate ventilation for a grill station from the Belgard Elements Collection. The addition of a bar ledge provided additional seating for guests to visit with the cook.

 

PROJECT #3: Front Walkway

The existing entrance walkway consisted of two separate paths, each with two distinct sections--one of exposed aggregate concrete, one of brick. This disjointed entryway was removed and replaced with a Mega Lafitt® paver walkway with a scalloped border of Old World pavers. Additional accents were created with a 4-foot deep landing edged with Weston Stone and flanked by Weston Stone flowerboxes.
