Belgard Permeable Pavers

Homeowners looking for beautiful and eco-friendly hardscapes for patios, driveways, and walkways are turning to Belgard Hardscapes' permeable pavers due to their ability to outperform both traditional concrete and asphalt paving in all areas-durability, wear, drainage, aesthetics, and long term cost.

"Some areas are even beginning to incorporate permeable pavers into their zoning requirements," states Ken O'Neill, Vice President of Belgard Hardscapes. "They're great for the environment because they reduce the amount of storm water run-off, help increase the quality of ground water, and eliminate the need for retention ponds in large developments."

"Our permeable paving system is engineered to hold twice as much water as a retention pond," continues O'Neill."This can also be important to areas that experience seasonal drought conditions. A self-sustaining home irrigation system can be easily created with the addition of an underground cistern and a pump."

Belgard's permeable concrete pavers are available in a variety of patterns, textures, and colors. For more information, or to locate a Belgard Authorized Contractor, visit our website.

Outdoor Fireplaces, Fire Pits and Brick Oven Tips

Fireplaces, fire pits and brick ovens allow homeowners to extend their outdoor season by providing a warm place to gather during the colder months. To keep your outdoor fire features functioning properly through the winter season, follow these simple tips from our experts.

Outdoor Fireplaces and Fire pits
Joe Raboine, President of Harmony Outdoor Living, Inc., offers a suggestion for protecting fireplaces and fire pits from accumulating snow and ice. He recommends installing glass or stainless doors on fireplaces and using stainless covers for fire pits. This prevents the cement or brick from absorbing moisture, which can lead to cracking if dried too quickly. "Fire features serve as great places to warm up while ice skating, playing hockey, sledding, or even just having a snowball fight," says Raboine. "Just be sure to follow a few simple precautions."

Outdoor Brick Ovens
Bill Paschen of Chicago Brick Oven recommends taking extra time to heat your brick oven if the outdoor temperature is near or below freezing. Fires should be built-up for at least one hour - start small, and carefully add more firewood to gradually raise the temperature.
