Settling Insurance Claims After A Disaster
|
Wind, rain, and power failure - Oh my! Now what? Steps for filing and settling an insurance claim.
Lately, we've all witnessed a few different examples of Mother Nature's fury in our neck of the woods. Some occurrences like Hurricane Irene don't come as a shock to New Englanders during this time of year, but others - as in the tornado that hit Western Massachusetts in June and last week's earthquake in the Virginia-area that shook New England, too - came completely unexpected. (Okay, so the effects of the earthquake were pretty mild up here, but it goes to show that the unexpected should be expected!)
For those of you who are unfortunately dealing with repercussions of this latest east coast disaster, consider the next steps you'll need to take when filing an insurance claim. This guide will help you decide if it's worth it to file the claim, learn how to make sure you're compensated to the fullest extent possible, and consider changes you should make to your insurance program to ensure that you're fully protected the next time a disaster happens.

Insurance Coverage for Your College Student
|
Home is where the coverage is, or is it? Improve your study habits by making sure your college kid is covered away from home.
With a new school year upon us, many parents are shipping off their college kids with their new laptops, iPads, smartphones, gaming systems, and other gadgets in hand. These items don't come cheap - (but what does these days?) Even if your student takes special care of their prized possessions, accidents, theft, and disasters do happen. That's why it's important to read your homeowners policy to see if your child's belongings are covered while they're living the dorm life. Otherwise, urge him or her to purchase an affordable renters policy for their off-campus apartment. Oh yeah, and if your child doesn't take a car to school or manages to keep his/her grades up, you could save big on your yearly premiums!
