Greetings!
Well, it's been a little over two years years since I started waking up at 4:15 in the morning. I was always an early riser, but 4:15 am was early even for me when I made the decision in February 2008 to leave the corporate world and hit the trenches with my clients knowing that most of us need that extra push to get our workouts in and Milwaukee was ready to for it! I wake up at 4:15 not because I have to, but because I am inspired to meet the 50 - 60 women who are among the few, the busiest, most talented devoted women I know, the women of Milwaukee Adventure Boot Camp.
Part of me feels sad that 5:30 in the morning is the only time most women can find to work out and the other part of me is moved that they would make such a grand effort to become healthy. I imagined that working women would make up a majority of the class and I was only partially right. Now we have multiple women-only AND co-ed camps, with working women and men, busy moms, students, retired couples...the list goes on and on but they are ALL kicking butt!
As we head into our third outdoor boot camp season, I want to remind you of how proud we are of your determination, drive and desire for the healthiest life possible. Thank you for allowing us to be an invaluable part of this journey. Our goal is provide you with the most effective, energizing, fun and "doable" workouts for your fitness level. Our goal as we continue 2010, is to be "the best hour of our campers day, everyday!"
As you read through this month's Sound Off! newsletter, we hope that you find at least one article, fitness tip, recipe or nutrition tip that you can use or share with a friend that helps you continue your path down the road to health and wellness! And remember, we are here to help!
Sincerely,
Coach Catherine

HEY COACH CATHERINE... Where Ya Been?
Those of you who took the March 2010 camp may have noticed that first week of camp that I was MIA for a majority of that week. Thanks to Coach Mike for taking over and running camp like a well oiled machine.
One of our Core Values is to be a constant learner. As owner and head coach, my job is to stay on top of current fitness industry research, training techniques, programming protocols, customer service, etc. I am not talking about reading magazines, I am talking about going to the source.
To do that, I applied to and was accepted into two prestigious mentorships in California.

PANTRY RAIDS CONTINUE Are They a Big Hit?
Why in the world would you ever want someone to come into your home
and go through your pantry, cupboards, freezers and refrigerators
pulling out all the "not so optimal" foods you have stashed away and
then have them explain why those foods are not your best choices? Kind of intimidating right? Well, you probably wouldn't ask for
this but we at Milwaukee Adventure Boot Camp have been successfully
doing it since 2008. |
FREE NUTRITION PRESENTATION April 14th at Open Book Store
You told us what you were interested in hearing more about, and we listened! In March 2010, we took a poll and 42% of you voted for the topic "Once and For All - How to Eat to Promote Fat Loss and Muscle Tone".
On Wednesday April 14th, Milwaukee Adventure Boot Camp's own Coach Catherine Andersen, will present this FREE seminar from 6:30-8:00 pm at the Open Book community book store in Shorewood.
We know there are rumors about the store maybe closing its doors. If they do, it will NOT be until April 19th, so we are safe. Come learn more on optimal nutrition for optimal fitness!

THE RESULTS ARE NOW IN... On the 24 Day Challenge
In February, Milwaukee Adventure Boot Camp (all locations) launched a 24-Day Cleanse challenge.
The goal was to create an environment in your body that allows it to eliminate the excess "stuff" (sugars, processed starchy carbs, etc.) that has a tendency to clog up our intestines and keeps our bodies from working at optimal levels. This has also been shown to keep our mid section puffy.
Here are a few camper comments...
...I felt bloated at first, but after I upped my water, I became VERY regular and that little pooch in my mid section went and stayed away, yeah!...
...The food part was pretty easy to follow, the checklist was very helpful once is was updated. I liked all the food, it was easy since it follow the SMART nutrition packet pretty closely. I lost 4 pounds and few inches but I have tons more energy. Kind of weird, I sleep better too...

ELM GROVE BOOT CAMP LOCATION Are We Getting a New Home?
Just like many good things, our Village Park home is coming to an end! Yes we are sad to leave the Park but are VERY excited about our potential new locations. For those of you who have not followed the past few months: until recently we have had a great relationship with the Village Park in Elm Grove. We had run our camps successfully at that location for two years, bringing not only more visitors to the park but exposure as well. BUT, we found out this year that the Village Recreation Dept. has decided to offer their own version of boot camp and they believe it would be a conflict of interest to have two boot camps running in the park at once. We, of course, disagreed, but neither our opinion nor the Elm Grove resident/campers opinion mattered. In an effort to plead our case we did attend a "town hall" meeting at the Park last year under the guise of defending a noise complaint. Unfortunately, noise was not the issue - money was. In any case, we do have a few other potential locations in mind. We are creating relationships with both the Waukesha County Park and the City of Brookfield Park systems. Our decision is not yet final BUT we will have a concrete location before next Thursday 4/15. We will make an announcement at the Nutrition Seminar, post the new location online as well as send out an email to all Elm Grove/Brookfield registered campers. This is going to be a great year of change! And remember, change is good. Are you an Elm Grove camper and feeling concerned over this situation? PLEASE feel free to contact the Village Park directly. Christi Torkelson, Recreation Director (1-262-782-6700) or at [email protected]and Amy Jeske, Recreation Manager at [email protected]. |

CELEBRATING THE WINTER OLYMPICS Boot Camp Style!
Well, the 2010 Winter Olympics may be over but we have not forgotten. For those of you who were unable to attend boot camp this winter, we wanted to bring a bit of boot camp fun to you. In February, we held an Olympic-themed boot camp day.
All campers did a great job in wearing their best red, white and blue workout clothes and they competed in a "non-competition" olympic boot camp workout. The workout was tough, focusing on exercises that speed skaters, skiers, snowboarders, and figure skaters may do in the off season for THEIR sport-specific training.
All campers paired up and the goal was to complete as many of the exercises as possible in the shortest amount of time. This kind of motivation REALLY kicked things into high gear and all campers ended that session sweating like real athletes!
