Extra Edition

A number of events are coming up that we all need to know about. December 11 is an especially busy day with the Winterfest Intergenerational Service, a fund-raising luncheon, our annual Book Sale, and a presentation of plans for our future property development by U of A architecture students. Please plan to attend all those that appeal to you

 Winterfest Celebration December 11

Our annual Winterfest intergenerational service will take place December 11. Put on by the youth of our congregation, it will feature a play directed by Betty Meikle and T.J. Boothroyd, starring our youngest actors and actresses.

 December 11 Luncheon

soupReserve December 11, after the Sunday Service, for a good time, while eating delicious soups, chilis and desserts in the Fireside room.

We are raising money for scholarships for our youth to go to Justice GA in Phoenix next June and for them to go to our PSWD Camp de Benneville in the Summer. Donations for this delicious lunch will be $5, but no hungry person will be turned away. Good fellowship guaranteed!

When your hunger is satisfied you can stroll over to the barn to look for good deals on books for your reading pleasure, or to give as Christmas gifts too!

If you are able to bring a soup, chili, bread, or dessert, please contact Lara at larabuggy3@gmail.com or Sybelle at UUSybelle@gmail.com

Architects' Presentation December 11

Many of you remember Luis Ibarra and Teresa Rosano, a husband and wife team of architects, who have worked with us in the past on plans for our future sanctuary. Luis has been teaching a class in architecture this year at the University of Arizona. He gave his students an assignment to develop a plan for our congregation, using our site and our ideal requirements. They will present their projects on Sunday, December 11, at 1:00 pm in the sanctuary.

Luis says,

The work you will see is typical pie-in-the-sky, developing student work. This assignment I have given them has been the most complex and challenging project for them to date, which means they have learned a lot. But I have to warn you, none of the proposals are feasible or realistic, but many of them have interesting things to think about and talk about.

For them to meet with you and get feedback will be a great final lesson about what clients really need and care about and need to know.

The students and I are all looking forward to it. Teresa and I hope to see as many of you as we can.

Winter Solstice Celebration December 21, 2011

On December 21, 2011 at 7:00 pm we are celebrating the longest night of the year with a VERY jubilant Celebration. Megha Morganfield (aka Meesha G.) is collaborating with us for a very merry event. And ALL are invited: members, friends, families and holiday visitors. We will begin at 7pm, concluding by around 8:30pm. The festivities will be outside, weather-permitting, so please dress accordingly. In case of rain or cold, the celebration will be moved into the Sanctuary.

We will hear Meesha's solstice carols, hear her play her Celtic harp, and participate in a spiral "dance," among other things. Yes, come prepared to play, sing, and commune...as well as to listen to "a little harp" music. This is a night not to be missed.

The event will be free of charge, except for a Love Donation that will be added to the Green Basket Charity of the month, the Emerge Shelter.

So please spread the word: come one, come all...for what better way to finish off the old and thus begin the New Year, than with your UU family.... (Note: Anyone wanting to help with the festivities, please contact Kathy Kouzmanoff.)
