Back in the office after a wonderful South Atlantic Fire Rescue Expo in Raleigh and I can't help but think of all the new top of the line equipment that was on display.  Pumpers, Rescue Trucks, Tankers, Aerials, and Brush Trucks with all the upgrades added to make them top of the line, long lasting vehicles for each of their respective departments.  These vehicles are what the fire service needs to get the job done in a safe and efficient way.  Yet, each day there are teams of . . . HB 538 - LGERS Law Enforcement Officer Disability Retirement Benefits for Line of Duty Injuries

We heard it first in 1987 when the supplemental retirement benefit and the mandatory 401(k) bills were passed for law enforcement officers - "Wait until next year".  Twenty-four years and we're still waiting.  The change is that cities in some cases are reducing 401(k) benefits for all employees and others offer . . . Cedar Mountain Fire Department Chief Davie Summey was elected Treasurer for the NC Association of Fire Chiefs during the Annual Conference held at the Raleigh Convention Center in August 2011. 
Chief Summey replaces long time Treasurer Donald Whitaker who
served our Association for 24 years.  The position is elected to serve
