Witness to a Miracle

We have been blessed to watch UCBC grow from its inception. In fact, our first trip to Congo was in 2007 when UCBC was still a dream and consisted of trenches and a storage shed. For UCBC to grow from these humble beginnings to its current status is truly miraculous. I have been an educator for two decades. I have observed and assisted numerous mission ministries on four continents. I will be teaching another course at UCBC next month.

Based on these experiences I can say without qualification that I  believe UCBC is one of the finest Christian educational institutions in the majority world. The educational philosophy is cutting edge and the students are remarkable. By virtually every conceivable measurement (poverty, conflict, violence against women, etc.) the DRC is one of the neediest countries on the planet. UCBC is educating and raising up a new generation of leaders who can, by God's grace, change the future of their country. My wife and I are delighted to be Kipepeo Partners and have been richly blessed by this experience. This is a strategic kingdom investment. We urge others to seriously consider becoming Kipepeo Partners.

Dear Friends and Partners,

Did you know that UCBC is the only university in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) with a

student-run radio station? Because of the vision and partnership of the Eastern Congo Initiative

David Kasali welcomes Ben Affleck to UCBC

(ECI), radio production and other exciting initiatives are helping to support Congo Initiative's and UCBC's commitment to holistic transformation in the DRC.

On Monday, January 23, 2012, Congo Initiative (CI) and UCBC had the pleasure of hosting friends and partners from ECI. ECI is the first advocacy initiative focused exclusively on working with community-based organizations (CBOs) in eastern DRC.

Actor Ben Affleck (ECI founder), Howard G. Buffet, (founder of the Howard G. Buffet Foundation) and Michael Gerson (writer for the Washington Post) were some of the 20 individuals that made up the visiting delegation.

The seeds of relationship between ECI and CI began informally in 2006 through personal contacts and a partnership between CI and Christ Presbyterian Church (Edina, MN). These seeds were watered in the following years through CI's friendship with HEAL Africa. The partnership became formal in 2011 with a grant from ECI for the UCBC Communications Development Project. With ECI's funding, this Project consisted of three goals . . .

6 Days Left to Reach our Goal!

We only have 6 days left to meet our goal of 50 Kipepeo Partners (monthly, sustaining donors) by March 1. The good news is that we already have 42 committed Partners. We only need 8 more sign-ups in the next week.

Steve Tracy shares why he and his wife give monthly (see left column). This is an opportunity for you to invest a little bit deeper in what's going on in Congo. Don't wait to make your pledge!

All you have to do is visit our donate page online and select "recurring donation." Any amount is welcome and appreciated; there is no minimum. Help us sustain the cutting edge education Steve refers to. Your contribution as a Kipepeo Partner will go directly to helping us meet tuition costs for our deserving students.
