Step back in time and uncover the history of the 31st President of the United States of America in West Branch, Iowa. Born and raised in this small Quaker town, Herbert Hoover is the only President to come from the state of Iowa.
Immerse your students in history by: 1. Taking a guided tour of the Herbert Hoover Museum. The museum boasts an extensive collection of Herbert Hoover memorabilia along with temporary exhibits that change throughout the year. 2. Walking through a 81-acre tallgrass prairie which leads to President Hoover's gravesite. 3. Visiting with National Park Service Guides as they lead you through the historic town of West Branch, where many of the original buildings that President Hoover visited still stand. 4. Picnicking under the trees and along the streets where young Herbert played as a child.
All of these activities are FREE of charge, for more information or to sign up for a spring field trip call: 319-643-5301 or send an email to: patricia.seebeck@nara.gov. For onsite classroom activities be sure to check out the ICN classes offered by the museum through IPTV! |

| Farm Field Trip: Hansen's Dairy |
|
|
Spend an afternoon on the farm with the Hansens! Fun for all ages, educational tours are available year round, giving students and teachers the opportunity to milk a cow, bottle feed a calf, and churn butter.
By the end of the tour, EVERYONE walks away with dirty feet and a better understanding of how a dairy farm works.
A family farm since 1861, Hansen's recently expanded their dairy farm to include a creamery. This addition has allowed the family to produce and sell their own dairy products. To promote their merchandise the family has a small "herd" of wallabies. This pouch-carrying marsupial is the farm's mascot and has quickly become a favorite stop for touring school groups.
For more information on Hansen's Dairy or to register for a field trip call Jeanne at 319.939.2187. Cost per student is $3.50 with adults chaperones free of charge. To buy Hansen's Dairy products stop by Moo Roo on the corner of Kimball and Ridgeway in Waterloo or 127 E. 18th Street in Cedar Falls. |
