Excelsior High School GraduationAug 2010 grads

Annually, Excelsior High School has three graduation ceremonies. Today, Excelsior will hold its Summer 2010 graduation ceremony and celebrate the success of three very special students who earned their high school diplomas. Students graduating are Krystal, Alexandria and Chelsea.

Our graduates and their families will enjoy a reception from 10 to 11 a.m. with therapists and school staff.  Excelsior has a special graduation luncheon in the cafeteria for all of our girls, graduates and family members.

studentGender Specific Programming

At risk young women are different from at risk boys.  Their behaviors are more intense, their psychology is more complex, and society treats them differently.  Excelsior staff are keenly aware of these differences and plan their interventions accordingly.

EXC bwExcelsior Joins Provider Network for United Behavioral Health

We are very pleased to announce that Excelsior has joined the provider network of United Behavioral Health (UBH).

Effective August 1, 2010, UBH has contracted with Excelsior to provide Day Treatment and Residential Treatment services. The Excelsior staff and I are very excited that UBH consumers will have greater access to our treatment programs.

Advice from Excelsior Staff
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR)

Many of the girls that enter Excelsior have histories of severe abuse and neglect.  Other girls were victimized while living on the streets.

While not all of the girls who enter the program are diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), many show signs of PTSD symptoms.  The Primary Therapist may recommend a client for a PTSD treatment called Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR).
