NEW MORTGAGE REFORM INFORMATION  

 

 

Mortgage Reform:

 

As of April 1st homeowners looking to refinance their mortgages and homebuyers looking to ascertain a new loan for a purchase are entering a new frontier. 

 

Last year, President Obama signed into law the Dodd-Frank Financial Reform Act.  Essentially, the law has created a new Federal consumer protection agency that will oversee mortgage lenders and other financial institutions. 

 

Furthermore, the law has essentially changed the way mortgage brokers and lenders determine what interest rates to offer a consumer.  The issue at hand is that small and medium sized mortgage brokers and lenders have uncertain fate and unfortunately even the large institutions are unsure of what hurdles lending will face come April 1st.
