Part 1-7 Yoga Nidra: Setting an Intention

Session One:
1. Opening: Welcome to our first session on Stress Reduction Yoga Nidra. Be prepared to talk, interact, think, challenge yourself, share and finally relax and let go.
2. Overview: We will begin this seven part series on Stress Reduction and the principals of Yoga Nidra with creating an intention. What is an intention? Intention is a path whose only direction is to keep you moving forward. With intention, you walk in the direction you want to walk without impatience to get there or anxiety about arriving.
3. Content:
· What is Yoga Nidra? Yoga Nidra is working at the level just before sleep to solve and resolve conflicts in thinking and believing patterns that cause limitations and stress in the mind and body. These patterns can be habitual and or programmed thinking patterns and self talk. Most of us try to solve our problems with the same mind that created them. Instead, Yoga Nidra helps you find solutions by transcending the linear dimension of logic, reason, and memory. In Yoga Nidra, shifts arise from spirit (consciousness) which exists beyond the confines of the intellect.
· How does it Work? We enter the Alpha brain waves the same as in sleep to shift from unconscious thinking and doing to feeling and being by using body, breath and awareness.
· How do I make my own intention? Intention in Nidra is like a magnet. Once you have defined what it is you truly want, your identification with it will exert a powerful magnetic force. If you act outside of your intention, you will sense a strong pull that realigns you with your ultimate intention. (Amrit Desi)
· Your intention changes every day, moment to moment. The only way to determine what you really want is to clear the mind of all the chatter. Saying one thing, while thinking and feeling something else creates conflict. We want to remove the internal conflict and align ourselves to act as one powerful force.
· Ask yourself these questions or write them down: What is flowing in my life? What is not? What is it that I want most in my life? How would I feel if I had this flow the way I want it? Then create a sentence that is timeless, a direction without destination, in the present tense, concise, precise and powerful. Close your eyes, see if what you wrote feel right, if not rewrite it.
4. Closing: Do a guided Yoga Nidra session (ORDER THE SERIES AND HAVE TROY LEAD YOU IN A STRESS REDUCTION SERIES BASED ON THIS TEACHING) based on the intention you wrote. As you come out of the session know that weather you realize it or not something has shifted internally to create your intention as a reality in the here and now.
