Reaction=Stress

How we react to life is all we can control. 
 
  Do you ever find yourself reacting to something or someone and thinking, 'Here I go again'?  I sure have. I am in Florida at Yoga School and am learning a lot more than I could expect and can not wait to share it in my classes with everyone.  But what I am learning can be carried off the mat into every aspect of life.  I thought I would share the biggest lesson that touched me the most so far, it is about our reactions to life, the only thing we can control. 
 
'Stress is the most prevalent problem in today's world.  The most important point to become aware of is that tension itself is not necessarily harmful.  Rather it is the manner in which we react to stress that is self-destructive.  Stress is residual tension that is not counterbalanced with relaxation.  Tension is natural; relaxation is natural.  Stress is what is left over after relaxation.  Self-destructive, stressful behavior that induces internal conflict also produces fatigue, frustration and guilt.  It diminishes your self-esteem, squelches your creativity and reduces your efficiency.  Studies have proven that it is impossible to feel anxiety and worry when your body is relaxed, and your breath flows slowly and rhythmically.  Anxiety is a byproduct of unresolved stress that has not been balanced by the parasympathetic nervous system.  Our current lifestyle has us on the go continually, keeping the sympathetic side of the nervous system in a state of continuous discharge while the restorative side, the parasympathetic system, rarely operates at its maximal level, seldom allowing muscles and nerves to fully release tension.  You can decrease the sympathetic dominance in the body through the practice of Yoga Nidra and with that experience of being free from tension motivate yourself to consciously maintain that natural state of ease, contentment and peace.Through techniques in Yoga Nidra we improve the ability to impartially observe and witness how and why we respond to life's choices....'  So be on the watch, the next time someone or something sets you off, watch the way you choose to react to the situation.  I have learned to laugh at myself many times already and if I am not laughing at my reaction I try to watch how it affects myself, my mood and others.  Let me know if you have any questions or would be interested in learning more.

Forward forward things come.
Backward Backward no longer. 
Present is my motion, present.
In this moment I can dwell for an eternity.
Forward no longer matters, past does not exist.
This moment, this moment is the beat I follow.
Like a marching mantra.
I hear the beat of a new drum.
This moment, this moment, onward I march.
I am moving, life moves with me.
