NUTRITION Are you one of the busy Americans who don't have time to prepare your food everyday? One of the most common question I hear when meeting with a new client is how to eat healthy when on the go all day long. What if I gave you some simple tips that will make it easy for you no matter how busy you are to eat healthier without making any major life changes. Here are the standard questions and answers I ask and give to solve this age old problem.
QUESTIONS
Do you eat at home most of the time? If so, what types of foods? Whole fresh foods, TV dinners?
Do you eat healthy size portions, or do you stuff yourself with every meal?
Do you snack in between meals, is so what do you choose?
Are you able to take a brown bag or cooler lunch bag with you?
Do you have a good support system of people (spouse, roommate) that will encourage you?
Do you eat vegetables, fresh or frozen?
Can you get one to two servings of fruit, especially berries everyday?
Are you eating whole grains? Oatmeal, multi grain breads?
Do you munch on nuts and seeds, especially almonds and walnuts?
Do you cook with Olive oil, add flaxseed oil to your shake. ANSWERS
Protein shake- No time to get yourself breakfast, make a shake. Add berries, a lean isolate whey powder, or soy if your vegetarian. Be creative.
Trail Mix- Buy a big box of low fat multi grain crackers, a low sodium bag of a mix of nuts and seeds, dried cranberries, your favorite candy. Measure out one cup scoops into sandwich bags and load your cabinet with these grab and go Pre-made snacks.
Greens powder - Greens powder is a concentrated blend of vegetable powders, antioxidants, and other plant fibers. It can be added to a morning shake.
Buy fresh veggies - buy a package of celery and wash, chop into sections and place in sandwich bags for the week, add Bay Seasoning for flavor. Buy 'party platters' of vegetables and divide them into baggies for the week. The cost is a little more, but you saved time and it is better than a fast food fix. |
