Michigan Youth Arts
Poster Contest
High school artists are invited to enter our first Michigan Youth Arts Poster Contest to have their work featured on the 2010 Arts in Motion 5k or the 2011 Festival poster.  Winners get copies of their poster and a $100 cash prize!

The contest is open to any Michigan high school student (enrolled in grades 9-12 for the 2010-11 school year).  You can create your work in any medium, but contest entries must be emailed in a digital format by August 15 for consideration.  Templates and fonts are also available for download.

Step 1: Download the instructions and entry form here.
Step 2: Render your artwork in your favorite 2D medium - paint, pastel, digital design, photography, collage, crayon - it's up to you!
Step 3: Create a digital file of your work to email with your entry form.
Step 4: Email your submission by August 15!

Good luck!

SphinxJoin us for the race!

Family-friendly and great for runners or walkers, our fall (10/10/10) event is more than just a race - it's a celebration of the arts!

There are FOUR ways for you to get involved in this amazing  event this October in Royal Oak!

REGISTER
Registration is open!  The race is Sunday, October 10, at 10am at Starr Jaycee Park in Royal Oak (on 13 mile just east of Crooks).  People of all ages - and groups of all sizes - can participate in a chip-timed run, or a fun run or walk.  Register early for big discounts!

Chip-timed 5k Run

$25 before September 1, $35 thereafter.

Self-timed 5k Fun Run or Walk
$20 before September 1, $30 thereafter.

DO ART
Artists of all ages are invited to submit proposals to perform or install art! We are especially looking for groups to perform along the route and in the park, visual and interactive art in the park, and creative awards to give to participants. Read the participation guidelines and submit a proposal!

VOLUNTEER
Race-day volunteers will staff the water station, serve as course marshalls, help with registration and check-in, and much more.  Anyone high school age or older is welcome. This is a great chance for school groups or scout troops to perform a service to the community! Read about the opportunities, then contact Stacey to become a volunteer.

RAISE FUNDS or DONATE
Whether you're a runner, a walker, an artist, an educator, a student or a parent, you can be a fundraiser, too! Visit our Run for the Arts contribution page to begin. Once there, click on "become a fundraiser" to set up your own personal page, with a photo, a personal fundraising goal, and the opportunity to track your progress and let people know how to sponsor you. You don't have to participate in the 5k to collect sponsorships, but running or walking for a cause is a great way to stay motivated and to inspire others!

Over 40 videos!
We've uploaded a boatload of videos from the 2010 Festival to our YouTube channel.  The pieces feature dance, theatre, vocal music, and instrumental music - as well as four student films created at the Festival featuring the infamous MJ flashmob!  Wow!

...and photos!
Check it out!  Some fabulous 2010 Festival photos have made it to our Flickr page.  Have your own Festival pics to share?  Join our Michigan Youth Arts Flickr group and share the love!

Request for Proposals
Michigan Youth Arts is currently seeking to engage a qualified research organization to assist its staff and partners in the research design, implementation, analysis and reporting of a statewide census intended to assess the status and condition of arts education in K-12 schools in Michigan. Download the request for proposals and submit by July 15.
