Students, parents and teachers, join us at Artstock! a two-day event this summer in Lansing to take stock of the state of the arts and arts education in Michigan.  Day two features an installation of "Stock Certificates" on the grounds of the Capitol.  Here's how to participate:

What is a Stock Certificate?
A 10" x 10" piece of art, created individually or as a group, to bring it to Artstock! for display on the Capitol Building lawn on the morning of June 23rd. These "stock certificates" represent the importance of
investing in creativity and quality of life. The 10 inches represent this important political year, 2010.

Who can participate?
Organizers can be local art councils, local government, art organizations, or other community leaders willing to distribute information, provide some materials and possibly transport the "stock certificates" if the makers cannot attend Artstock. Anyone can make a certificate.

How does this work?
Stock certificates can be any 10" x 10" flat piece that is heavy enough to not blow away outside, and should be somewhat waterproof. Organizers might provide wood boards cut to size, tiles or heavy cardboard. Subject and medium is open to imagination. Organizers might specify a date and time for groups to work together as an event, and they might choose a theme that represents their region or an idea. Or organizers may just pass on the information.

What happens at the Capitol?
After the Artstock morning session, participants should bring their stock certificate to the Capitol lawn where they can be "installed" (placed on the ground in a designated area.) Regions or groups will have the opportunity to place theirs together and volunteers will be there to assist. After the Capitol activities are over they can be taken home, or the organizer may have other plans, such as a local display. Each Stock should have name and contact info on the back.
