Followup: Tale of Evidence the Zebra Comes to Sad End Atlanta Zebra Treated at Auburn University
The Atlanta Auburn Club got an email from Noah's Ark this week, and we wanted to share it with you. We had followed the story of Evidence since the young Zebra was found injured on a metro interstate and taken to Auburn University for treatment.
"It is with very heavy hearts we tell you that Evidence has come to the end of his journey here on this earth and has moved on to his true Forever Home with his Creator. On the morning of Saturday, November 20, he was his usual self - eating, drinking and playing with Grace, his miniature horse companion. By late morning, he began to quietly stand on the far side of his habitat, instead of visiting with those who came to see him, as he usually did. Noah's Ark staff quickly assessed the situation and moved him to the privacy of his very own red barn. We called an equine vet and our own Dr. Karen Thomas to examine him. The poor zebra, almost three years old, was clearly failing and in distress. The decision was made to take him to Auburn University, where his original surgeries were performed. Our dear Evidence did not survive that final trip to Auburn. When the doors of the horse trailer were opened, he had already gone on to his final destination. Our hearts were broken at the loss of this courageous and feisty member of our family. Who knew that so many tears could be shed over a small, brave, spoiled zebra." Evidence's original doctor, Dr. Justin Harper, had warned that there was a possibility the stent used to repair his shattered urethra could fail. A necropsy performed at Auburn found this had happened.
