| War Eagle from the Atlanta Auburn Club! |
|
|
Greetings!
War Eagle everyone! The weather in metro Atlanta has had many of us thinking of Fall -- and now, the home opener of the 2009 Auburn football season is only TWO days away! We've got a lot of information we want to share with you before Kickoff at Jordan-Hare, so be sure to check out this edition.
We are adding two new AAC viewing locations this year -- in Virginia Highlands and Lawrenceville (time for all our Tigers in Gwinnett to celebrate!!) -- full details below.
College
Colors Day is on Friday (Sept 4) -- so don't forget to wear some Auburn Orange & Blue
to work and around town. If your office is participating, send us a
picture! We know of at least one that's having a department "Tailgate Party"!! (Since we're asking for photos, if you have any from the Braves outing, send them to us - we'll include in the next email. We had a group of 400 for that event! WDE!)
For anyone headed to Auburn on Friday - the Auburn Downtown Merchants Association is holding a Friday Night Kickoff Block Party at East Magnola (starts at 6:30p CT)
We should have information in the next few weeks about an AAC Bus Trip for the Georgia game - if you are interested, send us an email so we can get you on our list.
The AJC ran an article recently that ranked Auburn as the #1 choice of out-of-state schools for Georgia high school students, especially in the metro Atlanta area. If you missed it, click here to check it out!
There will be a lot of Alabama fans in town this weekend for the game at the Georgia Dome - so if you're not in Auburn, join us in making it an All Auburn - All Orange weekend in metro Atlanta!
Let's get the Labor Day weekend started...

AU Raptor Center Kicks Off "Football, Fans and Feathers on Friday, Sept. 4 Birds-in-flight raptor programs held this fall on Fridays
before home football games
The program, "Football, Fans and Feathers," begins Sept. 4 at 4
p.m.CT, the day prior to Auburn's home football opener against Louisiana
Tech. A variety of birds such as hawks, falcons and eagles will be
free-flown from flight towers. Education specialists will inform the
audience about each bird and their role in nature. Shows will also be held Sept. 11, 18 and 25; Oct. 16 and 30; and Nov
6, each beginning at 4 p.m. CT The Nov. 27 show will begin at 9 a.m. CT on
the day of the Alabama game. Programs take place in the 350-seat
Edgar B. Carter Educational Amphitheater on Raptor Road off Shug Jordan
Parkway. Directions are available at www.auburn.edu/raptor.

Medicine, has a mission of rehabilitating injured or orphaned raptors
and educating the public. All birds used in the educational programs
are non-releasable due to prior injuries or human imprinting. Any bird
capable of surviving in the wild must be released, according to the
U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, which permits Auburn to house the birds.

Have You Spotted an Auburn Billboard Around Metro Atlanta?
T.he Auburn Spirit can be found all over the highways and byways of metro Atlanta. And it has resulted in a metro-wide Tiger Prowl to be the first to spot every single one of them!! Thanks
to everyone who has sent us information. We promised we would keep a running list of where you can find them. If you spot one that isn't on the list, let us know!
Check out the recent AJC article about that mentions the billboard campaign (Note: the AJC reports that they will be up for at least six months!)

It wasn't easy, but after several times trying AAC president Kathleen Saal finally got a somewhat usable shot of the AU Billboard on southbound I-75. Driving south from
Acworth/Lake Allatoona, it's just past the I-575 interchange on the
lefthand side of highway, before the Hwy 5 Marietta/Canton exit.

This AU billboard was spotted by the AAC's Lee Bryan at Peachtree and Collier (right by Piedmont Hospital). He says it is above the old Harry's in a Hurry and viewable if you are heading north toward Buckhead on Peachtree.
The billboard below was photographed by Steve Blagg '89 from Grayson,
GA. He says it can be seen when riding West along Highway 78 through
Snellville. (We notice that this one has a rounded helmet, whereas the one on Peachtree doesn't!)

Additional sightings (but no photographs yet):
- Amanda Hazelip has spotted a new one on South Cobb Dr. heading towards Lockheed, Chattahoochee Tech, etc. She says it's on the right, just before the intersection of South Cobb Dr. and Austell Rd.
- Caretha Clifton saw one at I-85/ Riverdale northbound. She says it is close to the Chevron at the
intersection of I-85 and 138SR, across from Ryan's
Steakhouse.
-
Katie Dougherty '06 and Carol Stanley report one on Peachtree
Industrial Boulevard - inside the Perimeter - heading south. It's just
above the Honda dealership before you get to Chamblee-Dunwoody.
-
Michael Long, one of our vendors at the Kickoff event (he had the AU Tigers Crossrunner Scooter), saw one near the
crossroads of Pleasant Hill Road and Buford
Highway.
- Beth St. Jean '70 and Joan
Barnhill have told us about an AU billboard at the corner of Robinson
Road and Roswell Road in East Cobb.
- Andrew Davies has spotted one on Roswell Road - going north - just after the Spalding Road intersection. We think this might be the same one reported by Brittany Tucker who saw on Roswell Road before the Abernathy Road intersection (or are these two different billboards? Let us know!)
-
Scott Jaye says all
the Tigers up in Forsyth County can see one on Highway 9, just north of
Exit 13 (Hwy 141).
- Whitney Huth says there is one on I-285
Northbound between the airport and I-20... and another on I-20
westbound between Lake Oconee and th 285 Loop (in Conyers?)
-Bob
Hapner will have to confirm whether Whitney Huth's second sighting is
the same one he's reporting on the southside of I-20 facing east
between the West Ave and Sigman Road exits (he says you'll see it as
you drive toward Lithonia or Atlanta).
- Miranda Jones solved
the mystery of the billboard on US 41/Cobb Parkway. It's just south of
Barrett Parkway/Kennesaw. If you are traveling southbound you will see
it on the right side of the road before you hit White Circle.
- Jim Everidge has seen one at Sandy Plains Road and Canton Highway. . - We have confirmation now, too, that there is one near Turner Field. If you are driving north on the I-75/85 connector, you will spot it on the left - just before you get to I-20. It's near a Shell gas station.
Have you seen an Auburn billboard? If so, send us a photograph (but only if you can get the photo safely!!) and/or a description of where to see it. We'll expand the list in the next email newsletter. Our email address is: communications@atlantaauburnclub.org WAR EAGLE!!!
