Greetings!
(From the AAC: Apologies for the resend everyone. That email for the job opening came to us with a small typo in the contact info, so we wanted to make sure everyone got the correct address; also added a message from the golf team and corrected a typo of our own. Hope to see you tonight at Vita!! WDE!)
As usual, we've got another big edition of the AAC newsletter to share with you today. We've had a busy couple of weeks with Bark at the Park a week ago, the Auburn Young Alum reception at The Bucket Shop last Thursday, and the Habitat House Build on Saturday.
Up next: Our Tiger Talk evening with Auburn's compliance team. Come out and join us after work tomorrow (Wednesday 5/13) and help us give Rich & Bernard a real Auburn Tiger welcome! These guys are the best and we're very excited that they are taking some time in their schedules to join us.
The golf team is starting to need a headcount -- so please mail those registrations as soon as you can! And the AAC Young Alums are planning their next event - we've heard it will be a night of bowling. Details are still being worked out, so keep a lookout for more information on Facebook and in a future email newsletter.
For everyone who is following us on Twitter -- thanks for being part of that effort. We've been Tweeting when time allows and, to be honest, we've found that we can Tweet a lot quicker than we can format these email newsletters! So, we plan on using that when we've got information we want to get out fast... and the occasional story link (like Urban Meyer's comments on the Auburn "Tiger Prowl" limos. LOL!)
Our Facebook group is just short of 400 now -- not bad for only a few months -- maybe we'll top it after this email goes out. You can also find us on Tiger2Tiger too. As always, any and all feedback and suggestions are welcome...
Have a great evening everyone --- and hope to see you after work tomorrow for some "Tiger Talk"!

Now that we have our first Habitat build "under our tool belt" -- we will definitely doing more!
We've asked each of the volunteers to write up a paragraph about their experience on Saturday. We hope to share those with everyone in a future email newsletter.

In the Headlines: Latest Auburn News (the Bo Jackson Edition!)
Bo Knows Commencement Speeches From College Grid Iron 365 blog on OrlandoSentinel.com
Bo knows football, Bo knows baseball and Bo even knows diddly
(contrary to the old Nike commercial). But former Heisman Trophy winner
Bo Jackson also knows a thing or two about public speaking.
The Auburn legend delivered the commencement address Saturday at his alma mater. "When I came to Auburn, public speaking was the last thing on my
agenda. I avoided it like the plague," Jackson told Auburn's Class of
2009. "I was afraid, after football games my freshman year, I was
afraid to get up in front of a news camera to talk because I was going
to get nervous and start stuttering."
Later he urged the grads ...
"...Step out of your confort zone. Take chances -- not foolish
chances -- because you never know what the world has out there for you." Jackson
has two children currently enrolled at Auburn, and one child has
already graduated. Something tells me that Bo will be asked back to
deliver another speech or two at his alma mater.
AU FOOTBALL: Bo talks life after football From the Opelika-Auburn News; By Andrew Gribble, Auburn University Beat Reporter; Photo Cliff Williams | Opelika-Auburn News
Published: May 10, 2009

When
the call came in from Auburn to deliver both of Saturday's commencement
addresses, Bo Jackson listened, then hung up the phone without giving
an answer.
Jackson, who has tried his best to regain anonymity after his
star-studded, two-sport career, sat down with his wife, Linda, to
discuss the spotlight-garnering proposition. It's what he does every
time an offer is pitched in his direction.
This one, Jackson said, was a "no-brainer."
"It's something both of us are comfortable with," Jackson said. "We're both Auburn graduates and have two kids at Auburn."
Jackson became just the second person to address both groups of
Auburn graduates Saturday. It's something Jackson wouldn't have been
comfortable doing in the past, he said, but that was the point.
Jackson's speech centered on the benefits of stepping out of one's
comfort zone, something he's done constantly since his athletic career
ended in 1994.
"From that sense, it gives me great pleasure to know that I can come
back to Auburn University and the faculty have faith in me to do a good
job," Jackson said in between his early morning and mid-afternoon
speeches. "I hope I did a good job."
Jackson said he remains connected to the university, but prefers to
not butt his head anywhere near a spotlight situation. He said he
specifically prefers not to be associated with the football team
because "I know how to play football, so I really don't keep up with it
that much."
"I like to dibble and dabble in things I don't know too much about," Jackson said.
When the Auburn women's basketball team won its first SEC
regular-season championship in 20 years this past March, Jackson sent
each player a bouquet of roses. Upon arriving on campus from his home
in Illinois, he learned that the women's golf team had recently won an
SEC championship of its own.
"There may be another batch of roses coming down, you never know,"
Jackson said. "I don't do these things for publicity. I would rather
keep (reporters) as far away from me as I can. Not saying anything bad
about (them), but I think I've spent enough time in front of the mikes
and cameras."
Jackson said he's avoided falling into the traps that come with being a retired athlete.
Jackson proudly drives a big 2003 Dodge pickup truck "with dualies"
because "every body expects you to be driving a fancy, $300,000 sports
car, a Rolls Royce or a Bentley," he said. When strangers approach him
to ask if he really is Bo Jackson, he said he replies "sometimes."
"They say 'What the heck are you doing in Chicago?'" Jackson said.
"I say 'I'm just passing through. I'm on my way back to the West
Coast.' And I live three blocks down the street. It's fun."
Jackson played at Auburn from 1982-85 and became the second player
in Auburn history to win the Heisman Trophy. He played for four years
in the NFL with the Los Angeles Raiders while also slugging for Major
League Baseball's Kansas City Royals. He retired from baseball in 1994.
One year later, he went back to Auburn to earn his undergraduate degree.
"When I first started playing sports as a kid, my mother told me
that if you don't make the grades, you can't play," Jackson said.
"Those rules should apply everywhere. Sports, don't get me wrong, it's
great. But it can't take you far as you need to go in this world,
especially when you get out of sports and go into the business world."
Jackson now owns a local bank in Burr Ridge, a food company and a sports complex.
"Everything can be taken away from you," Jackson said. "The
government can take your money, your cars, your house. But the
government can't take your education from you. Let athletics be the
second most important thing on your list when you're in college.
"If I could do it, you can do it. And I was a bonehead."

How You Can Help the AAC Provide HOPE for Metro Area Students
At the beginning of the year, the Atlanta Auburn Club presented Auburn University with checks totaling
$40,000 in scholarship funds. This total included $14,000 for the
club's Annual Scholarships to be awarded for the 2009/2010 school year,
$25,000 for our Atlanta Auburn Club Endowment Fund, and an additional $1,000
for the Lauren Burk Memorial Scholarship Fund.
Thanks to
your continued support of our scholarship fundraising efforts in the 2007-2008 club years, the AAC has raised a grand total of $60,000 in
scholarship funds to help metro Atlanta area students -- now and into
perpetuity. It is an impressive achievement that we can all celebrate
and be proud of!
While we continue to work in 2009 and beyond
to raise scholarship funds, you can help us grow the AAC endowment even
quicker by designating a portion of your Annual Giving donation to this
fund!
If you would like more information on how you can make a donation to the AAC's 501 (c)(3) Roy B. Sewell Memorial Scholarship Fund, Inc., please contact our club president, Kathleen Saal, at: communications@atlantaauburnclub.org -- WAR EAGLE!
