War Eagle from the Atlanta Auburn Club!

Greetings!

War Eagle everyone! BIG news to share with you about our GIANT Kickoff event in July. We broke the news on Twitter last Friday. Decided to wait until after A-Day to include in an email. Initial details are below with much, much more to follow. Be sure to save the date!!

Young Alums are gathering at Tin Lizzy's in Buckhead on Thursday, and - for the canine Tiger crowd - there is still time to join our group for the Braves' "Bark at the Park" at Turner Field (not often you can take your dog to a baseball game -- so don't miss this one!)

Also, at last look there were still some slots available for our Habitat Build. Plus don't forget our night of Tiger Talk on May 13 - We are busy, busy, busy this Spring!

Does anyone have any great photos to share from A-Day? Send them to us and we'll include in the next email newsletter...

We are pleased to welcome as our special guests for the evening: Rich McGlynn, Auburn Associate Athletics Director, Compliance; and, Bernard Hill, Auburn Associate Athletics Director, Compliance.

Rich and Bernard will be in Atlanta for an NCAA meeting. We have long wanted to get them here to meet more metro area Tigers, and to share their inside scoop on what is what in the SEC and the NCAA. These guys are great... and they make compliance fun!

The best part: they will answer your questions...about Auburn and those "other" schools! So, come join us for some casual, fun & lively discussion!!

The AAC will also be holding a raffle to benefit our 501(c)(3) Roy B. Sewell Memorial Scholarship Fund.

When: Wednesday, May 13
Time:Happy hour starts at 6:15p-6:30p. Our Tiger Talk session will start at 7:30p.

imageBig Plays Highlight Auburn A-Day

AUBURN, Ala. (AP) -- Auburn produced a handful of big plays in the debut of Gus Malzahn's no-huddle offense.
Ben Tate rushed for two touchdowns while Onterio McCalebb and receiver Terrell Zachery each scored on 70-yard runs in Saturday's A-Day spring game at Jordan-Hare Stadium.
Quarterbacks Neil Caudle and Kodi Burns alternated series on offense in their battle for the starting job, which will continue into fall camp. Caudle threw touchdown passes of 4 yards to Mario Fannin and 34 yards to Darvin Adams.
The Tigers were without a number of players, including quarterback Barrett Trotter. Trotter sustained a torn knee ligament in Thursday's practice. The game pitted the first-team offense against the second-team defense much of the time. The offense won 57-31.

AU offense produces in spring game
The Associated Press/Saturday, April 18, 2009
Auburn - Neil Caudle knows the big plays and points Auburn's offense put up in Saturday's spring game came with a caveat. Caudle and fellow quarterback Kodi Burns were facing a defense that was a mix-and-match group with a number of key players out or limited with injuries.

The Tigers offense produced 70-yard runs by newcomer Onterio McCalebb and receiver Terrell Zachery - on an end-around. Ben Tate only had four carries, but they produced 72 yards and touchdowns of 46 and 9 yards on his first two series. Darvin Adams had a 45-yard catch and Mario Fannin a 41-yarder.

To Caudle, it was a solid debut for offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn's no-huddle, shotgun attack.

"I know the defense is banged up and they didn't have all of their guys," said Caudle, who passed for 161 yards and two touchdowns. "But it's a big confidence-builder for us to go out there and hang up that many points on them."

Attendance Milestone at A-Day Game

AUBURN -- Saturday's attendance of 45,381 at Auburn's A-Day spring game was a record -- by a large margin. The next closest attendance figure was 38,016 in 2003, when the Tigers were forecast to be one of the top programs in the country.

To the players, the record number of fans indicated a shift in the way the Auburn fan base thinks of head coach Gene Chizik. Many fans were unhappy with the hiring of Chizik, who was 5-19 in two seasons at Iowa State, and voiced their disapproval loudly around the time of his hiring.

"I think it shows that these fans are going to give him a chance," quarterback Neil Caudle said. "And I think it shows that not only are the players buying into his system and the way he's doing things, but the fans are buying into it as well."

DID YOU KNOW??

Life members of the Alumni Association have the chance to make a huge difference in the life of future Auburn students.  The Circle of Excellence Society opens the door to direct participation in building the Auburn University Alumni Association Scholarship Endowment.  There are three levels of participation:  Orange Level ($1,000-$2,499), Orange & Blue Level ($2,500-$4,999), and Diamond Level ($5,000+).  Currently, less than 1% of Life members have participated.  Auburn needs us now more than ever!  For more information, visit: www.aualum.org/membership/circle-excellence.html

Get Involved
There are nearly 100 local Auburn Clubs throughout the country, and through these groups alums have the opportunity to participate in various fund-raising activities either directly for their local club scholarship or towards the Association's Endowed Scholarship.  In 2005-2006, more than $178,000 was raised by local clubs for students in their areas to attend Auburn.

How else can I give?
Just make your tax-deductible contribution to the 'Auburn University Foundation', designating your local club scholarship or the Alumni Association Endowment in the "Notes" line of your check. Or if you prefer give online and choose "Alumni Association Endowed Scholarship" as your gift designation or specify your local club scholarship in the 'note other gift area here' space.

How You Can Help the AAC Provide HOPE for Metro Area Students

At the beginning of the year, the Atlanta Auburn Club presented Auburn University with checks totaling $40,000 in scholarship funds. This total included $14,000 for the club's Annual Scholarships to be awarded for the 2009/2010 school year, $25,000 for our Atlanta Auburn Club Endowment Fund, and an additional $1,000 for the Lauren Burk Memorial Scholarship Fund.

Thanks to your continued support of our scholarship fundraising efforts in the 2007-2008 club years, the AAC has raised a grand total of $60,000 in scholarship funds to help metro Atlanta area students -- now and into perpetuity. It is an impressive achievement that we can all celebrate and be proud of!

While we continue to work in 2009 and beyond to raise scholarship funds, you can help us grow the AAC endowment even quicker by designating a portion of your Annual Giving donation to this fund!

If you would like more information on how you can make a donation to the AAC's 501 (c)(3) Roy B. Sewell Memorial Scholarship Fund, Inc., please contact our club president, Kathleen Saal, at: communications@atlantaauburnclub.org -- WAR EAGLE!
