Atlanta's Auburn & Tennessee Clubs Hold Joint Event Sept. 25th Join Us Next Thursday for Pre-Game Fun & Canned Food Drive
One thing's for sure -- there promises to be plenty of orange! Mark your calendars now, tell your friends and fellow Tigers, and make plans to join the Atlanta Auburn Club and the Atlanta Tennessee Club for a joint pre-game event ...that's also aimed at benefiting a good cause.
We've got the downstairs bar reserved at Hudson Grill (Perimeter Mall) next Thursday (September 25th) for an after-work get-together, from 6 - 9pm.
We will also be helping to fight Hunger in metro Atlanta by holding a canned food drive to benefit the Atlanta Community Food Bank, so bring some canned goods along with your Auburn Spirit and let's talk football, the SEC....and our biggest rivalries (Bama - Georgia) with the Vols before the big game.
This will be Auburn's first game against Tennessee since the Tigers beat the Vols in the 2004 SEC Championship game, 38-28. Auburn has won the last three games in the series, including a 28-21 win in 2003 in Tennessee's last visit to Jordan-Hare Stadium. Auburn leads the all-time series, 25-21-3.
Hudson Grill Perimeter is located at 4400 Ashford-Dunwoody Rd, Atlanta 30346, 770.350.0134

After Week 1: Aubie in 2nd Place Overall - He Needs Your Votes!!

After the first week of competition in the Capitol One Mascot Challenge, Aubie is in second place - behind Thundar from North Dakota State. The two of them are followed by Iowa State's Cy, The Bird from Air Force, BYU's Cosmo, Cocky from South Carolina, Testudo from Maryland, UCLA's Joe Bruin, NC State's Mr. Wuf, Smokey from Tennessee, Boise State's Buster, and.... in last place.... Mike from LSU.
Aubie won his first head-to-head battle last week and this week he is taking on Cy. Aubie is on a roll --- but he needs more votes! We just checked and Aubie is still in second place overall with a cumulative vote total of more than 41,700 votes. Thundar has over 45,500 votes. (Don't vote for Thundar this week....Aubie needs to catch up!)
Every week is a new "primary" so to speak -- so tell your fellow Auburn Tigers to go out and cast some votes!! And don't forget to vote every day! Heck, for Aubie - this is bigger than that other vote that everyone's always talking about, and he doesn't even have a running mate!!
Click here to Cast Your Vote on the Capital One Bowl website
To check on Aubie's progress, you can check out his page on the website by clicking here, This is also where you can download a Standings Widget to post on your blog or web page. |

In the Headlines: Latest Auburn News...and more
By MIKE SZVETITZ, Sports Editor, Opelika-Auburn News, Sept 17, 2008 Auburn Notes: Brad Lester and Big Recruiting Weekend
AUBURN - Brad Lester's injury went from bad to a lot better Wednesday. The senior running back participated in practice, Auburn head coach Tommy Tuberville said, although he did not go through any contract drills for the second consecutive day.
"Brad looked good," Tuberville said. "Much better. Ran the ball hard. Range of motion's good. Barring any set back, if he continues to do what he's doing, he'll be ready to go."
Lester suffered a sprained neck in last Saturday's win over Mississippi State, and was taken off the field on a cart, supported by a neck brace and strapped to a backboard. After all the examinations came back negative, Lester returned to practice Tuesday. Wednesday, he quickly progressed to the point that Tuberville said he would be ready for Saturday's game against LSU.
Although he didn't have any contact Wednesday, the head coach said that was just a precautionary measure.
"We're not to that point yet," Tuberville said of contact. "He could have, but he's staying in the training room. Just right now, trying to get the stiffness out. Again, there's no physical injury. ... Knowing neck injuries, which I've had, it's awfully sore.
"He's 100 percent. If we played today, he could play. Like I said, in the next couple days, it could flair up on him. I think he's ready to go."
Big recruiting weekend ahead: It's not only an important weekend for the Auburn football team this year, but Saturday's game against LSU could have an impact on the Tigers future. According to Tuberville, Auburn is bringing in seven high school recruits for official visits this weekend. Tuberville also guessed that there would be 300 to 400 unofficial high school players on campus.
"This is a great time to bring players in," the head coach said. "The only negative is I don't get to spend a lot of time with them. Obviously, we're a little busy. "But if they want to see what it's actually about, this is a good time to come." ---
From International Herald Tribune, Sept 18, 2008 Auburn DBs look forward to another shot at LSU
The Associated Press AUBURN, Ala.: Cornerback Jerraud Powers and Auburn would take their chances with the play again if they had a do-over. Powers was defending - and in good position - on LSU's risky, go-for-broke touchdown pass last season.
Matt Flynn's 22-yard pass ended up in receiver Demetrius Byrd's hands as the final seconds ticked down for a 30-24 LSU win. Like any good cornerback, Powers has both the confidence and a short enough memory not to get rattled by the play.
There's always next time, which comes when No. 10 Auburn hosts No. 6 LSU on Saturday night.
"I knew that question was going to be brought up a lot from last year's game," Powers said. "I haven't been sitting, worrying about it, thinking about that play. I haven't put it on my wall and said, 'I can't wait to go against these guys again,' because I knew this chance was going to come."
Besides, Powers had pretty good coverage. Flynn just threw a near-perfect ball and Byrd came up with it.
"I've said many times if we did it 10 times, we wouldn't change the defense," Auburn coach Tommy Tuberville said. "We wouldn't change how we covered. I've heard the receiver say, 'I never really saw the ball. I just stuck my hands up,' and the ball went into his hands. It was very unusual."
Powers said he has not watched the replay since last year. He insists he doesn't even remember it all that well, though for many Auburn fans the memory is crystal clear.
"You know, he made a play and I didn't," Powers said. "That's all it came down to. I was in good coverage to make a play, but he came down with the ball. That's all I remember from last year." ---

Did You Know? There are nearly 100 local Auburn Clubs throughout the country, and through these groups alums have the opportunity to participate in various fund-raising activities either directly for their local club scholarship or towards the Association's Endowed Scholarship. In 2005-2006, more than $178,000 was raised by local clubs for students in their areas to attend Auburn.
Circle of Excellence A new 'giving' society for life members, the Circle of Excellence opens the door to contribute directly to the Alumni Association Endowment fund, which provides several full-tuition scholarships to first-year Auburn students. With a $1,000 starting contribution level (pledged over 3 years), the 3-tier society allows these Alums to know that they've contributed to Auburn's efforts to bring deserving students to The Plains.
How can I give? Just make your tax-deductible contribution to the 'Auburn University Foundation', designating your local club scholarship or the Alumni Association Endowment in the "Notes" line of your check. Or if you prefer give online and choose "Alumni Association Endowed Scholarship" as your gift designation or specify your local club scholarship in the 'note other gift area here' space..
