| War Eagle from the Atlanta Auburn Club! |
|
|
Greetings!
War Eagle everyone! We wanted to get the Memorial Day holiday weekend started off with some Orange & Blue ....before pausing to recognize those who have served the Red, White & Blue.
Lots of exciting news in this edition of the AAC newsletter, including a sneak peek at the design for our new club T-shirt and more details about our BIG Kickoff event on July 15 (hint: it's undergoing an "Extreme Makeover" ...and we need your help!).
For all the Tigers that will be hitting the golf course this Summer, our annual Roy B. Sewell Memorial Scholarship Golf Tournament on June 9 is fast-approaching. This event supports a great cause -- the club's scholarship fundraising efforts -- and, it's a lot of fun too! More details are below, so get those registration forms to Joe Davis or he may come knocking on your door! And thanks to all the great golfers who have already gotten us their information.
We've also got an update on Auburn's favorite Zebra....and details about the launch of the AAC's community service project with Rally Foundation - to raise money for children's cancer research.

AAC corporate sponsor The Settings at West Point Lake will once again be the title sponsor of our golf tournament and Jim Ellis Audi is sponsoring the hole-in-one competition -- do you think you can take home the big prize this year? In addition to a great day of golf, there will be Jason's Deli boxed
lunches and, in a continuation of a much-loved Atlanta Auburn Club
tradition, we will have after tournament BBQ courtesy of our Auburn
family & friends at Slopes BBQ.
Tiger Rags will also be at the golf tournament with a great selection of Auburn fan merchandise. We are starting to organize the foursomes -- so register now!! We particularly need names and handicaps.
Don't have
enough golfers for a foursome --- no worries! Joe Davis will get you on
a team! But we do need to get all golfer names and handicaps
as soon as possible.
Only a once-in-a-while golfer? Also no worries ---
many golfers join us: to network, have fun, have an excuse to miss
work, shout "War Eagle!", wear orange & blue....and support a very worthwhile charitable cause. (Some even try to win!) Click Here for a Golf Application

AAC's Annual Kickoff Event to Have a Game Day/Fan Fest Theme in 2008! We Are Undergoing an "Extreme Makeover" and We Need Your Help!
Okay Atlanta -- we promised some "FUN"raising in 2008 and and we are working hard to score some touchdowns!
Our annual kickoff event -- the one day a year when Coach Tuberville and much of the rest of Auburn are here in Atlanta -- will be moving out of the ballroom setting that we have done for years and into a 36,000 square foot exhibition hall at the Cobb Galleria Convention Center.
The goal: a Game Day/Fan Fest/Pep Rally/Tailgate sort of setting, complete with tailgate tents and more surprises. We'll be lowering the price to get in the door, switching from catering to concessions to keep with the theme, creating an atmosphere that will be fun for Tigers of all ages, especially children --- and for the first time ever....inviting all of the incoming freshmen from the Atlanta area to join us!!!!
We already have a lot of things lined up --- but because this is an "AAC Extreme Makeover: Kickoff Edition" we are in need of finding contacts/referrals for some things that we didn't have to worry about in a ballroom setting. Our critical needs right now are few -- but they are important and each is an area where reliable contacts and additional information are most helpful. If anyone has contacts or information about available resources in these areas, we'd be most thankful to hear from you:
---Portable bleacher-style seating (want to find this locally) ---Astroturf? (or, some sort of green carpet...or even real sod? --- limited space use only) ---Seeking a metro landscaping company (or garden shop) with Auburn connections (we'll explain why!) ---Audio-Visual ---Are there any Tigers that could help us with some very limited - yet fun - prop building? (the sort of materials we'd be using -- wood, pvc pipe, etc) ---We will need extra hands the day of this event -- if you can help that day, please let us know
Vendor space is still available too.
And, if you would like to donate something for our Silent Auction, which benefits our 501(c)(3) Roy B. Sewell Memorial Scholarship Fund, Inc, please contact us with details! The AAC Silent Auction raised a record amount of funds in 2007 and we want to set another record this year.
Questions? Ideas? Brainstorming thoughts? All are most welcome! Contact us at: communications@atlantaauburnclub.org Thanks & War Eagle!!!

AAC Joins Rally Foundation to Raise Funds for Children's Cancer Research 4 Quarters 4 Research Project Starts Now - So Start Saving Your Change!!

Have
you ever wondered what to do with that spare change you always have in
your pockets, the bottom of your purse, or under the seats in your car?
Well, that change can actually change lives!
This year, The Atlanta Auburn Club is joining together with Rally
Foundation to help raise money for children's cancer research through
the group's popular 4 Quarters 4 Research -- a program that has
garnered participation from more than 140 schools.
The foundation, founded by Auburn alum Dean Crowe, has one mission: to
raise awareness and funds through grass roots initiatives. Rally gives
100% of its net proceeds to fund all phases of childhood cancer
research. It helps fund the collaborative research of more than 5,000
physicians, scientists and nurses at 200 hospitals nationwide. These
physicians and nurses treat more than 90% of the children in the U.S.
with cancer. Eighty percent of these children are enrolled in clinical
trials.
The first child helped? William Olson, from Cobb County, who at the age of 14 was
diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor. Today, Will is a student at
Auburn University.
Beginning in June, the AAC will be distributing special ziploc bags and postcards at all our events, including the golf tournament and Young
Alum events. If you won't be there -- no worries, just use any Ziploc bag.
What do you do? Save your spare quarters, nickels, dimes and pennies!
Then, bring it with you to our Annual Kickoff Event with Coach
Tuberville on Tuesday, July 15. Adults...children...everyone can
participate! Rally Foundation, which includes the involvement of a lot
of Auburn alumni, will be with us that evening.
It is our hope that this effort will be the start of an ongoing
community service project for the AAC. Metro area Tigers can also help
spread the word, by encouraging their local schools and/or places of
employment to hold their own 4 Quarters fundraisers.
Want to read more about all the great work Rally is doing...and all the great people supporting this effort --- Click Here to visit the Rally Foundation website.

In the News: The Latest on Striped "Tiger" Evidence
Noah's Ark reports this week that Evidence is settling in at his new Locust Grove home and even making some new friends, including a cat named "Mary."
The Atlanta-area facility is preparing a special place for Evidence at the 250 acre habitat, so everyone can visit him (be sure to say "War Eagle!").
During his return trip to Georgia from the Auburn University Veterinary School, the Alabama State Patrol gave Evidence an escort to the state line. Locust Grove police guided him the rest of the way home when he reached the Henry County limits.
The AJC reported earlier this month that Noah's Ark had received about $7,200 for Evidence's medical care. Donors also agreed to buy a horse trailer for the center and build a small barn where Evidence can live once he is healthy. Until then, he's in a stall fashioned out of part of the back porch of the children's home at the center.
Noah's Ark, in Locust Grove, is 250-acre home to more than 1,000 special animals which were unwanted, abused or neglected --- including lions, TIGERS and bears. It is also an admission-free attraction for the public.
While checking the website this week, we noticed a fun Summer Camp at Noah's Ark that we thought we'd pass along to metro area Tigers. It's an overnight campout at the facility, complete with a "flashlight Safari" of exotic animal habitats, hayrides, bonfires, S'mores, camping under the stars, and helping to feed the 1,200 animals at Noah's Ark. What an adventure! For more information on the Summer Camp at Noah's Ark click here.
Anyone interested in donating to Evidence's continued care or reading more about the work done at Noah's Ark can click here or call 770-957-0888.
