| War Eagle from the Atlanta Auburn Club! |
|
|
Greetings!
Big announcements, big dates, big savings and big awards -- that's the general theme of this edition of the Atlanta Auburn Club's Email newsletter...and it's a BIG issue. So, be sure to have a calendar handy as you read through it because there are a lot of events to make note of!
In addition to the AAC Golf Tournament, AT&T Classic, Thrashers outing, and upcoming AU sports events in Georgia, we've also set a date for our next Orange Bandana Day at Piedmont Dog Park -- Saturday, April 28 at 11am! We want to get a large group of Tigers out for this one, so save the date!
Details of the Atlanta Auburn Club's membership drive for 2008 will be announced soon -- and we've got other surprises headed your way. In recent weeks, we launched a new online tool that allows you to make safe & secure, tax deductible online donations to our 501(c)(3) Roy B. Sewell Memorial Scholarship Fund. You even get a receipt for tax purposes. Currently, you can find this link on the scholarship page of our website. We will be doing some Spring cleaning on our website, and adding new links too, so be sure to check it out. We also have an Email archive now and you can access that from a link on our home page.
Of course the big news from the ALUM Association is the launch of Tiger2Tiger. More details on this are below. We encourage you to register now and join the Atlanta Auburn Club group! Finally, if you haven't done it already, please click on the "Update Profile/Email Address" link at the bottom left of this email. We want to make sure that everyone is subscribed to the email alerts that they want. We have expanded the categories so that we can target emails to specific recipients when necessary -- Golf, Young Alums, MAIN, Community Service and more. Make sure you aren't left out!

Atlanta Auburn Club Wins Top Awards at Annual Club Conference 2007 in Review
War Eagle! The Atlanta Auburn Club is very proud to announce that we received three top awards, and honorable mention in two more categories at the Annual Auburn Club Conference, held February 8-9 in Auburn. Many of the more than 100 local Auburn clubs across the country were represented at the meeting, and it provided AAC club leaders a great opportunity to get new ideas, share experiences with other clubs, and meet more fellow Tigers.
For the second year in a row, the Atlanta Auburn Club was awarded a top level award of "All Auburn All Orange" for Auburn Club Excellence. The A.C.E. awards were established in 2006 as a replacement for the "Most Outstanding Club" Award in order to recognize the outstanding contributions of all clubs and their efforts to improve. There are three A.C.E. levels and the Atlanta Auburn Club has now achieved the top level for both 2007 and 2006.

In addition to the A.C.E. awards, there are seven individual annual club awards. And we are most pleased to report that the AAC's efforts were recognized in four of the seven categories:
-Winner of the "Outstanding Scholarship Program" award, which recognizes a club that has excelled in all areas of a successful scholarship program including fundraising, promotion efforts in raising money, and recognition of scholarship recipients. This year's prize: a full-size Auburn football helmet for our Silent Auction that is autographed by 12 former Auburn players - Marcus Washington, Kenny Irons, Carlos Rogers, Adlai Trone, Reggie Torbor, David Irons, Ronnie Brown, Haven Fields, Daniel Lindsey, TJ Jackson, Ben Grubbs, and last but certainly not least.... Carnell "Cadillac" Williams. This will be up for bid in the AAC Silent Auction in July!

-Winner of the "Communication" award, which recognizes the club that best communicates with its club members, Auburn Alumni Association and community. Prize: an extra postcard mailing to area Tigers (this will come in quite handy in the metro area!).

-Honorable Mention, "Most Outstanding Club Event," which recognizes a club with the most creative, non-traditional event. The Atlanta Auburn Club's Orange Bandana Day at Piedmont Dog Park was cited in this category. Our next Orange Bandana Day is Sat. April 28 - at 11am!
-Honorable Mention, "Most Outstanding Club Leader," which recognizes a club leader who has done an outstanding job, as nominated by the club. AAC president Kathleen Saal was cited for her work in 2007; she won the award in 2006.
What else can we tell you about 2007? Well, it proved to be a most successful year for the Atlanta Auburn Club. First and foremost -- we lost no money on events and fundraising ventures and actually INCREASED overall earnings across the board, a top priority for the club in 2007. On scholarships, once again we raised enough money to finance three regular one-third tuition scholarships for students from the metro area. (One-third tuition scholarships reduce a student's out-of-state tuition burden by two-thirds; more info). If you do math, that amounts to about $18,000 in necessary funding. The AAC also started a fundraising campaign for a newly established endowed scholarship. Our increased financial success in 2007 enables an initial deposit of $12,000 for this endowment (endowed scholarships reach full funding at $100,000). We will be talking more about this campaign in 2008, but if you'd like more information now about how you can help, just email us.
While scholarship fundraising is one of the main missions of all local Auburn clubs, it is a firm belief of the AAC that some definite fun-raising is also necessary! How else to escape the traffic, road construction...and other "benefits" of living in a metro area that often feels like it's the size of Texas! So, we shook things up in 2007--held less board meetings and had more events, including a Draft Day Tailgate with Kenny & David Irons, our Orange Bandana Days at Piedmont Dog Park, group outings to see the Thrashers and the Braves, game-watching parties for the Florida & LSU games, bus trip to the Georgia game, a Chick-fil-A Bowl party....and much, much more! Already for 2008, we are adding the AT&T Classic and a new initiative to launch a local MAIN (Minority Alumni Involvement Now) effort.
We pledge to continue to move forward on positioning the Atlanta Auburn Club as one of the top
local Auburn clubs in the country. We already have some exciting new events announced and we'll be telling you about more throughout the year. We also want to hear from you! The key to our success is YOU -- we want to energize all metro area Tigers and build a real sense of Auburn "community" in the big city. So, let us know if you have any ideas or questions. The Atlanta Auburn Club is a 100% volunteer organization and, for us, it is always recruiting season... so, send us an email & get involved!

| Atlanta Auburn Club Skybox at AT&T Classic Golf Tournament
Make your reservations now & send in your checks--by March 15!
The Atlanta Auburn Club is moving forward with an exciting opportunity that enables us to have a special AAC Skybox at the 17th green for this year's AT&T Classic PGA tournament, May 15-18 at TPC Sugarloaf.
This event promises some great PR for Auburn University and the Auburn Tiger family in the Greater Atlanta metro area....and beyond. It also holds the additional potential of helping the Atlanta Auburn Club raise funds to help finance our endowed scholarship for metro area students, who face ever-rising out-of-state tuition costs at Auburn .
We have to sell a minimum number of tickets - 130 - in order to break even on this event -- and we have set a deadline of March 15th to achieve this goal. So, we are asking the help of all interested Tiger golfers and businesses to help us spread the word. And we invite all interested parties -- anywhere -- to join us! Note: If we cannot meet this goal, we will return your checks and cancel with AT&T. The financial burden for this venture is far too great for us to risk losing money.
The AAC Skybox at the 17th green at TPC Sugarloaf will enable Auburn Tigers, their friends, business clients, business prospects, or your business employees/recruits to gather while watching some of the world's best golfers.
This year marks the 40th Anniversary of the AT&T Classic Golf Tournament in Atlanta. The AT&T Classic organization says it has invited Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson to the tournament. And, so far, the following players have already committed: Zach Johnson (Defending Champ), Charles Howell III, D.J. Trahan, Stewart Cink, Chris Di Marco, Lucas Glover, Hunter Mahan, Boo Weekly.
Cost for the tournament are $125 per person, per day. And this entitles you to the following: --Ticket access to the tournament grounds at TPC Sugarloaf --Special ticket access to the AAC Skybox at the 17th green --All inclusive high quality food buffet --Open bar with beer and wine beverage selection --1 parking pass
All ticket purchases for the AT&T Classic are 100% deductible as a charitable gift. From The Atlanta Auburn Club Mailbag
Emails from Metro Area Tigers
Q: Will the February newsletter contain information on getting tickets to the A-Day game? The auburntigers.com website hasn't made anything other than the date and time available yet. We need to fill the stadium that day to show our support for the team, Coach Tuberville and new coaches Franklin and Rhoads! I have heard several people inquiring about it so far, but no one seems to know answers yet. Thanks! Susan Melton '76
A: Susan, thanks very much for your email. We checked with the Auburn Alumni Association for an answer on this one. Here's what we found out: There is typically not a formal announcement for the A-Day game tickets. In the past, tickets were available at the stadium on the day of the game and they usually cost $5.
