An AUBURN Night on the Ice for Thrashers vs. New York Rangers, December 7th AAC Brings Some Orange...to BLUELAND
We know what you're thinking---the college football season is only into it's fifth week! But after spotting all those Christmas trees and light displays at Garden Ridge, Lowes and Home Depot, we got thinking about December too! (Cue the drum roll, please!)
The Atlanta Auburn Club is pleased to announce that we're headed back to BLUELAND on Friday, December 7th to watch the Atlanta Thrashers square off against the New York Rangers! Game time at Philips Arena is 7:30 pm.
This was a very popular AAC event when we saw the Thrashers in March -- and this time, we picked a great matchup on the ice too!
Through November 7th, the AAC will be selling specially priced group tickets for this outing: $30.
A PayPal link will be up on the website very soon. In the meantime, if you want more information or want to reserve your seats, contact the club at: communications@atlantaauburnclub.org |
| AAC Bus Trip to Athens November 10th -- Reserve Your Seat Now!
It only happens once every two years! Don't miss out on the Atlanta Auburn Club's "Tigers' Day Out" -- when we board two buses bound for Athens, and that all-important date "Between the Hedges."
We always have some Tigers joining us from out-of-state and elsewhere in Georgia, so don't procrastinate! Seats are already being reserved!
Buses will leave the Park & Ride at I-85 and Indian Trail (just north of Jimmy Carter Blvd.) about five hours before Kickoff. Tickets are only $30 per person. And yes, there are already some Tigers planning to join us who don't have tickets yet.
Why drive and worry about parking in Athens when you can get the tailgate party started sooner with us! For more information, or to reserve your seat, email: communications@atlantaauburnclub.org |
I AM Auburn
That feeling known as the "Auburn Spirit" or that sense of togetherness known as the "Auburn Family" is the common thread that links those of us that are fortunate enough to have experienced our Auburn moments. Those moments can be as miniscule as a friendly War Eagle shout out from a complete stranger in a faraway land or as significant as walking across the stage and accepting a hard earned diploma from the school that we refer to simply as home. As I embark on the plains (also referred to as "God's Country" or "The Holy Lands") that safe, comfortable feeling of arriving home is immediately felt as soon as I turn on 147 from Hwy 280. And as crazy as throwing toilet paper into oak trees after a victory can sound to outsiders - that act of innocent fun shared by everyone from toddlers to seniors at Toomer's Corner simply celebrates the accomplishments of our brethren. And aside from an occasional ding from a roll of toilet paper gone astray, it's way safer than rioting and looting that goes on elsewhere. My brother-in-law, who is an avid Georgia Tech fan, was in awe of the "War Eagle" greetings I received from countless people I'd never met all over the park at Walt Disney World one recent Thanksgiving. His comment was "Is that normal, you're not on campus or at a game?" And I said if you are a member of the AU family it is. If you wear Auburn gear, you expect that gesture from fellow tigers no matter where you are. I love Auburn! I AM Auburn! Eric Gronquist - Lifetime Alumni Member, Class of '84 (Huntsville, AL)
***
In a military family, I grew up moving all over the country. None of my family attended Auburn - at least not before me. I passed up free tuition at the hated state school of Georgia (before HOPE), and my beloved father paid out-of-state. Any place with "Hey Day" was right for me. I moved to Auburn not knowing one person. Twenty years later, it's where I see my best friends - my Auburn family. Something happens to my heart as soon as I exit on East Glenn. I'm back home. I read The Plainsman faithfully; own a dozen pairs of orange shoes; and keep a score poster on my office door no matter how the season goes. I adore Aubie like a 5-year-old; crave Guthrie's over any other option; and still have a Supper Club card in my wallet. I AM Auburn! Tammy Trout, '88
Last year, after 23 years in the same house, we moved to Roswell. Three months later, a tornado took out our trees, power lines, and new garage roof! As we were finishing a very long day of cutting up and hauling trees and debris, a Georgia Power truck drove up. The first thing I heard was "War Eagle" and I realized our Georgia Power worker had seen my Auburn shirt! He gave us hints as to how to get our power fixed quickly, and even provided a part (one that we were supposed to get an electrician to supply). Because of this Auburn fan, we were able to have power that night! When the lights are out, and anytime -- nothing is more welcome than a big WAR EAGLE! I AM Auburn! Laura R. Chambers

It's another Dog Day Afternoon!! The AAC's "Orange Bandana Day"! Join the ACC at Piedmont Dog Park on Sunday, October 14th at 2 pm; Park Tavern afterwards!
Whoever said "cats" and dogs can't have a great time has never been around a lot of Tigers! In the midst of a Summer heatwave in June, we had a diehard canine crowd of some 30 Auburn dogs turn out for the Atlanta Auburn Club's first-ever "Orange Bandana Day."
This event was so popular, we're doing it again! The four-legged members of the Auburn pack picked the date: Sunday, October 14th (the day after the Arkansas game). We'll be meeting at Piedmont Dog Park again -- at 2 p.m. -- and then joining other Auburn Tigers over at the Park Tavern afterward.
Make plans now to join us for a tail-wagging good time! Can't find an orange bandana? No worries! The AAC has a limited quantity available for $3.00 each. Don't have a dog? Borrow one.. or better yet, ADOPT! There are plenty of dogs that want to be Auburn Tigers! War Eagle!! |

From the AAC Mailbag: An AU Believer...from New Mexico State!
The AAC received a copy of this the day after Auburn's 55-20 win. We wanted to share it with everyone! War Eagle!
Posted: 9/23/2007 1:38 PM What an experience in Auburn
I would like to take a minute of your time to THANK EVERYONE we encountered while in Auburn yesterday for the game. It took until we were leaving for us to even hear 1 negative comment towards our team or us. We are used to being cussed, spit at and having things thrown at our team. What an AWESOME and refreshing return to the South for me. My wife had never experienced "Southern Hospitality" before even though we are from Texas. We were treated with respect and chivalry from the time we pulled into Auburn. Our walk down College towards the stadium was sprinkled with "Good Luck, Welcome to Auburn", "Want something to eat", How about a cold drink...............and the list could go on. Absolutely beautiful Southern Belles that wanted to have their picture taken with us. Thanks to our host at their tailgate party who insisted we not walk past without having a beer and bbq. I never made it to the tailgate we were invited to becasue your fans are too damn nice. We made it about 1/3 of the way around the North end of the stadium in 4 hours.
Once inside I got to experience WAR EAGLE and what SEC football really is, tv does it no justice. WOW, and this was with the stadium empty. To touch the hedge was incredible. Then the orange crush of rabid Tiger fans began to fill in and while getting their game face on, they were still polite and courteous, OF COURSE. I took over 1,500 pictures yesterday and will try to put a few up to show you our gratitude. I also took 2 pieces of "the hedge" with me after the game 1 for my son and the other for my sister the SEC football nut stuck in West Texas.
The the absolutely most awesome sight in the world happened just above me and thanks to the security guard I captured every moment of WAR EAGLE !!!!!!!!!!!! WAR DAMN EAGLE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I got goose bumps and chills. As I searched for a perch to take some pictures form the North endzone a trooper told me to "find my seat". I knew where it was, but didn't want to vacate so once again your Southern Hospitality came through. Several Auburn faithful moved around so I could have a place to shoot some shots of our Aggie team. It was only after the wheels shot off in the 3rd qtr that I thought I should leave and let them enjoy the moment of Auburn Football coming alive again.
After the game our team was praised for it's play and welcomed back to Auburn anytime we care to come back. The walk back to our car seemed so much longer than the one going in, but once again we were greeted by your AWESOME fans. Our team buses were cheered and applauded as the exited the stadium. What Class.
I was told 2 weeks ago by a poster on our board that unruly behavior is the norm and if I didn't like it maybe I should stay home and not watch my son play college football. Each and every one of your fans confirmed to me that he was full of crap. Thanks so much for restoring my faith in America and the values so many of us stand for.
Their was one Auburn fan I would like to thank in closing, he was the drunk frat guy who yelled "Aggies Suck" as I left the stadium. I knew out of 83, 700 + that there had to be at least one that would drop his guard. His friends did shut him up and apologized for him, damn them....I thought I finally had something negative to say about Auburn and the Tiger fans.
Thanks again so much and WAR EAGLE. |
We're Seeing More Tags on the Highways! What Auburn Club Special Tag Numbers Have You Seen?!!
Any Auburn Tigers living in Georgia who DON'T have an Auburn Tag -- please raise your hands!! A club volunteer passed 4 AU-plated cars on the way home from work on I-75 northbound last night! We had heard that the tags were often spotted on I-85 and in areas west of Atlanta --- but this was a definite first! How many tags do you pass during your commute? And with so many tags now on the road -- we have a dilemma: how do you say "War Eagle!" We want to hear your ideas -- so send them to us and we'll share them with everyone else.
There are about 18,500 alumni in the metro Atlanta area alone, and some 30,000 Tiger alums statewide. And that's not even including the extended Auburn friends and family that call Georgia home.
What's the lowest and highest numbers you've spotted on the highways?
The Atlanta Auburn Club's success in getting this tag launched spurred on the Auburn Tigers in Mississippi, so they'll be joining the states of Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, and Virginia in the ever-expanding Tiger Tags Nation! And now, Auburn applications are being collected in North Carolina too! Help us spread the good news! For more information on all of these Auburn tag efforts click here
And for more information about the Auburn tag in Georgia, see our club website. If you have any questions, feel free to contact us at: communications@atlantaauburnclub.org War Eagle!

Here is one of the tailgating recipes available online - this one, submitted by Jay Jacobs' mom!
Fanny Sandwich submitted by Millie Jacobs, Tampa, FL (husband John is Class of '57 and son Jay is with the Athletic Dept. as the AD)
1 large, round sourdough bread, unsliced 1 small jar artichoke hearts, drained (reserve marinade) 1 clove garlic, crushed 1/3 lb. total of different kinds of cheeses (Swiss, Cheddar, Jack, etc.) 1/3 lb. total of different kinds of cold cuts (ham, turkey, salami, pastrami, etc.) 1 avocado, sliced 1 red onion, thinly sliced 1 small can black olives, sliced 1 tomato, sliced Lettuce Salt and pepper to taste
Slice bread horizontally and hollow out inside of top and bottom carefully. Put crushed garlic in reserved artichoke marinade and let flavors blend for a few minutes. Brush marinade on the inside of bread top and bottom and up sides so all bread shell is flavored. Begin layering remaining ingredients in bread bottom - cheese, meat, cheese, meat, etc., adding artichokes and rest of vegetables in layers. Place top on bread; wrap in foil and refrigerate until ready to serve. Before serving, put sandwich in foil into a plastic bag. Ask someone to sit on it in a chair or on a picnic bench in order to make sandwich more compact for ease in slicing. To serve, cut sandwich into pie shaped pieces and enjoy the flavors and smiles!
