Welcome to CariFin e-news letter for CariFin Games 2011, the 20th Edition. I hope you are enjoying all the excitement and fun generated by the Games so far, the interaction and engaging of all the institutions.
The pre-events of the One Lap Savannah, Green Mile, Chancellor Hill Challenge and Aerobics Burnout, have given us a lot to be happy about and helped us to look in expectation in the coming weeks for the exciting saga to unfold.
Below is a brief preview and intro to the four past events and a little insight to the upcoming event.
One Lap Savannah!
The First of the Competitive Events
Minister of Education Tim Goopesingh with Ruth Frazer-Munroe & Hazel Tywang-Maharaj
The stage has been set at the One Lap Savannah event and we had a record turnout this year as more people lined the walking and running start lines for the fun, fitness and friendship experience. The Organizing Committee is pleased and welcomes everyone to the CariFin Games 2011.
The winner of this event was Mark Thomas of RBL
who took the 2.28 miles distance in 14.22. In 2nd place was John Donaldson of Grace Kennedy in 14.23 and Robert Sharpe of RBL 3rd in 14.49
Esla Anthony got one up on the ladies by bursting the tape in 17.06, Wendy D'arbasie took 2nd place in 18.18 with Chelsea Anne Phillip in 3rd spot with a time of18.45.
In walking Roland Caton of RBC/RBTT won in 24.29 with Deodath Harrikissoon of First Citizens finishing in 2nd place in 24.33.
Carla Questelles-Forde of First Citizens won the walking race in 28.05
The idea this year was to have people beat their 2010 time and we want to applaud everyone that have done that so far. The Green Mile was the ideal event to attempt this. Congrats to all those who were able to take off even those microseconds. But back to the race. The participation numbers were more or less maintained at the Green Mile. As a result the following night TV 6 carried highlights. You can check it out on our website.
The winner of the Green Mile was John Donaldson of Grace Kennedy his winning time was 5.37. Anthony Cape of RBC/RBTT surprised everyone by copping 2nd in 5.45, following him was another young and upcoming athlete also of RBC/RBTT who took 3rd place in 5.47. Another young debutant/first timer from CBTT Akeem Simon occupied the 4th place in 5.54 and crossing the finish line for 5th place was Ryan Pierre of GHL. Among the females Wendy D'arbasie blazed the trail to finish first in 7.02. Following her was another Central Banker Esla Anthony in 2nd place in 7.16, Susan Russell of RBC/RBTT rushed in at 7.36 before Chelsea Anne Phillip, another CBTT athlete, relegating her to 4th place.
In life they say only the strong survive. Add pouring rain to the mix on Chancellor Hill and you get a situation where just to come out and take part was an herculean task.
That paints the picture. The participation figures reflected that dramatically. In the end John Donaldson of Grace Kennedy got to the top of Chancellor first overtaking a fading Mark Thomas of RBL to win in 14.27 with Thomas finishing second in 14.56. Akeem Simon of CBTT took third place with a time of 15.14 and in the process pushed down John Castagne and Anthony Cape of RBC/RBTT into fourth and fifth place with a 15.32 and 16.46 respectively.
Among the women the Central Bank trio of Esla Anthony, Chelsea Anne Phillip and Wendy D'Arbasie filled the top three spots in 18.45, 19.15 and 19.43 respectively.
In walking Roland Caton of RBC/RBTT by the smallest of margins nipped Deodath Harrikissoon of First Citizens at the finish line by doing 21.49 to Harrikissoon's 21.50. Clement Jubrasingh of RBC/RBTT took the third spot in 22.06.
Among the women Carla Questelles-Forde of First Citizens won in 24.39 making it three wins in a row.
Some scenes from the Aerobics burnout at the Central Bank Plaza. Action was nonstop from the first beat of the music. It was one of those events that had you riveted to the stage, making sure you didn't miss any of the excitement.
