Nicole Budd, two times CariFin winner, a former top local
finisher in
CLICO Marathon and first time participant was back to her winning
ways by capturing 9th spot overall in the women category and placed
2nd in her age group 30 - 39.
Susannah Joefield placed second in the 50 - 59 age- group-up
category and 4th in the
National Amateur Athletics Association
category in a time of 1 hr.55 min.
Grace Oblington took second place in the 60 - 69 age - group
category in 2 hrs.45min.
These were the successes we enjoyed in the open, age-group
and special categories.
Outside of that open competition there was much action to
report on

internally - the top position among the men came from CariFin
2007/2008 champion Nikosi Mc Leish in a time of 1hr.30min.1sec, which was also his
predicted time, re: video interview.
This is a 4 minutes improvement better than his 2007 time of
1hr.34min.55sec.
However he was unable to eliminate the best time by a CariFin runner in this
race, set by
Rodney Julien last year - 1hr.29min.42sec.
However he got the better of a some what recovering from a
recent injury Julien who shadowed (ran along side) him almost to the end of the
race.
For Nicole Budd efforts of placing in the top ten women
overall and 2nd in her age group she is the top performer among the
women in the CariFin women category. This being her first
UWI SPEC International Half Marathon there is no stats to compare, but her best half
marathon time was around 1hr.35min. at the Butler half marathon.
Nicole's response to what was most spectacular for her about
this race was "The course was so easy and I knock off about 20 minutes of the
time from my trial run on the course."
The second place among the men was John Donaldson in1hr.39min.24sec
a bit slower than his 2007 time of 1hr.38min.37sec. In third place, Wayne
Roberts improved on his 2007 time of 1hr.40min.08sec by producing a time of 1hr.39min.58sec.
In the women category for CariFin 2nd place went
to Susanna Joefield in 1hr.55min.10sec bettering her 2007 time of 1hr.59min.29sec.
Following in third was Angela Parris in 2hrs.06min.46sec.
Among the many first timers -
(the people who have ventured at this distance for the first time) to
highlight
some of the performances we have -
Melissa Berkley in 2hr.07min, Jason Miller
with 2hr.21min, Caroline Assing doing 2hr.34min also
Annette Neilson 2hr.40min
and
Darren Cole in 2hr.28min. Good performances to note were Brent Alexander -
1hr.47min, Gerard Richards - 1hr.57min and Jade Camps in 1hr.59min.
The Scotiabank Dragon Boat team
had a wonderful time running and supporting each other on the course and
afterwards had a group lime that probably took them way pass the end of the
morning's proceedings. Let not forget the
CLICO posse, Team
GHL,
RBTT,
Republic Bank,
Intercommercial Bank,
CBTT, the
BP crew and
Grace Kennedy together with a
few friends and family members that make this CariFin Team in Training for
UWI SPEC International Half Marathon so successful for us.
