CariFin Takes 54 runners to the streets
(UWI International Half Marathon)
Port of Spain, Thursday, 01 November 2007. Fifty - four (54) runners/joggers from mainly the Financial Services Sector signed-up to run with the CariFin/Nature Valley "Team in Training" for UWI International Half Marathon. This race is scheduled to take place on Sunday November 04, 2007 at 6.00 a.m. The race will begin at the state-of-the-art UWI Sport and Physical Education Centre in St. Augustine, continue along the secured, traffic free, Priority Bus Route (13.1 miles) in East Trinidad, make a loop at the turn around point at La Resource and return to the University of The West Indies in St. Augustine.
Carifin, which is more famous for the organization of it's annual Cross country events for the last 15 years, has decided to ply their running skills on the harder asphalt surface and longer UWI International Half Marathon race course of 13.1 miles.
The biggest contingent on CariFin/Nature Valley "Team in Training" for UWI International Half Marathon comes from Guardian Holdings Limited with 14 members, led by arguably the fittest CEO in Corporate Trinidad - Rory O'Brien who is ably supported by the company's Chief Financial Howard Dottin. Their team captain is Marcia Pierre, other members on the team are Hollis Granville and Frances Attong and 3rd place finisher at CariFin cross country 2007 John Warren just to name a few.
RBTT's team includes the 2007 cross country male champion Nikosi Mc Leish, Leroy Calliste Group Financial Controller, Clem Jubrajsingh Manager of Operations, Christian Hannays, Richard Downie and Cherylin Cadogan. Second place finisher in this year cross country race Rodney Julien of ALGICO is also ready for this Sunday's race. Central bank is represented by Wendy D'arbasie, Michael Lucess and Wayne Roberts. Vanessa Lee Foon and Miguel Mohammed are on for CLICO. John Donaldson of Grace Kennedy and Cecila Melville of CITI will be running wit us. Friends and family make up the rest of the team Susan Garcia, Bernatte Xavier, Brenda Reid, Mushtaq Mohammed, Jannien Poon, Gemma Thompson, Ingrid Keshwah are some of the other members of the team.
Cindy Gafoor, brand manager of our sponsors Nature Valley Granola, liked the project from the beginning and never hesitated to give her support to our team. Our team is pleased to participate in the best road race in the Caribbean with this healthy, nutritious and delicious brand.
Our team will be outfitted in a blue and white vest with CariFin and the sponsors logo to the front and the words -"Team in Training" for UWI ½ marathon written on the back. We are urging people who live close to the bus route and the course to please come out and give your support to the event.
