Q: What is the Least Expensive
Renewable Resource?

A: Conservation
Gov. O'Malley has committed to a goal of reducing electricity use in Maryland by 15% by 2015 - seven years from now. An article about this goal and the plans for attaining it appeared in the Baltimore Sun on 12/28 (Read here.)

We all must work together if we are to attain this needed reduction in energy use and the related production of greenhouse gases.

Though difficult, energy conservation is the best choice, with the least cost to the consumer and the most benefit to the environment.

Malcolm Woolf, Director of the MD Energy Administration, wrote this in response to the Sun's article:

"Maryland continues to consume far more electricity than it generates, resulting in high prices and the possibility of summer shortages as soon as 2011.

Energy efficiency is a critical component of any solution to bring our bills down and keep our lights on.

Simply put, the cheapest kilowatt is the one not needed." (Read full letter here.)

The best  place to start conserving is in our homes.  Collectively, our homes account for 21% of our national energy use.  It is estimated that most homes could reduce their use by 20-30% through efficiency improvements. (source: EnergySavers.gov)

Our Home Energy Inspections are specifically designed to help a homeowner determine the most cost effective method for improving their home's energy efficiency.

Post Reporter Joins Us on an Inspection in DC
Blower Door TestWhen reporter, Mary Ellen Slayter, interviewed us for an article on energy conservation last October (read the October article here), we told her about our Home Energy Inspections. She became intrigued by our description of the Blower Door Test and asked if she could join us on an inspection. She wanted to see the test in action.

Her article about our afternoon together appeared on the front of the Washington Post Real Estate section on December 15th. She especially enjoyed our tour of our customer, Robert Whale's house as we searched for the source of air leakage. With our big fan revving in the background, we found Robert's hidden energy leaks.
