Yes, he was a great and disciplined student, but human wisdom had nothing to do with it. When Paul ministered he did not try to show off his wisdom and understanding of philosophical concepts. He rather focused all his attention and energy on Jesus Christ, the Way, Life and Truth. (John 14:6) His curious mind found total satisfaction with the revealed Christ. "I resolved to know nothing, to make a display of nothing, and to be conscious of nothing among you except Jesus Christ (the Messiah) and Him crucified." 1 Cor. 2:2

Skilled in "what" law?

Paul was not always like this. His days before he had a personal encounter with Jesus on the road to Damascus were characterized with a lack of understanding. It was a carnal obsession to keep the faith pure, only he was in the wrong faith. Faith not in a Person but an institution, not personal but cold as ice, void of divine relationship focused on religious recognition. Remarkably the Hebrew origin of the word "Damascus" means "to be skilled in the law" That was Saul! Working diligently on his way to be skilled in the law. When we take a careful look at the Church of Jesus Christ today we'll notice more than one Saul in pursuit of the same, on their way to Damascus. They're majoring on the law of religion and tradition, completely lacking understanding of intimacy, spontaneity and Spirit exuberance. Religion has become a science rather than experience.
