Join us this month at BAK for loads of FUN and Fundrai$ing!
For the last several months I have been focused on developing a project that is near and dear to my heart. It is the Walk Unafraid Project Kit, a do-it-yourself public art project that can be done by anyone absolutely anywhere.
Based on a site-specific installation I created in 2003 to raise awareness of domestic violence, the piece (which resembles a crime scene) can be used to raise awareness about any kind of abuse, including environmental, political and corporate abuse.
The kits include all the materials to create a Walk Unafraid public art installation. I just created a new site telling all about it. WalkUnafraidWorldwide.com just went live tonight! Check it out to learn more about the project.
I've been working with a phenomenal crew of volunteers, and I am deeply grateful for all their generosity and expertise in helping me realize this dream! (See the list of amazing people below!)
I'm excited also to announce that we have the marketing materials introducing the Walk Unafraid Project Kits at the Family Violence Prevention Fund's National Conference on Health and Domestic Violence which opened today in New Orleans. This is thrilling, as the conference attracts thousands of people who are looking for ways to address these issues.
I am actively raising capital for the production, marketing and distribution of these awareness kits. The project promises to be self-sustaining within the first year.
With domestic violence on the rise, I want to get the kits out to schools and grassroots organizations around the country immediately.
Come celebrate all the good stuff we've been cooking up here at the Art Kitchen and help support this cause.
Millions of people can benefit from getting this effective awareness tool out to the public. We have some great events planned and hope you will be a part of the fun!
There's so much to share (Like taking Walk Unafraid to the UN Climate Talks in Copenhagen in December as part of a large art initiative called New Life Copenhagen and other great things happening around here). But those stories and fun photos will have to wait for the next newsletter.
In the meantime, mark your calendars, book the sitters and come have some fun!
xoxo Gabrielle
