Sandwich Chamber

Greetings!

While we try as an organization to balance our focus on all the different sectors of our local economy - I've got to admit in the next couple weeks it's all about the tourists and the infusion of revenue they will bring to our lovely Cape town. Some things we are working on include:

  • The Boardwalk Ball - our first annual - will take place this Friday.  We'll be dancing the night away at the Dan'l Webster to raise funds for tourism services such as a website redesign.  As budgets for visitors services continue to be cut - we came up with this new fundraiser (and fun-raiser) to fill the gap. Not too late to get tickets!
  • The Sandwich Guidebook will be out mid-May and we are finalizing our distribution plans to get it out here, there and everywhere for all to see.
  • The Visitors Center is opening May 13th. A huge thank you to Board members for doing a spring clean up last Saturday and to Scenic Roots for donating flowers.  Chamber members please drop off any updated brochures, menus and flyers you'd like us to pass out.  That week of May 16th - 20th we'll be there 7 days a week from 10am - 5pm.
  • We are working with the Town, citizens and museums to find more resources and funds to spruce up our public bathrooms and beaches to put our best foot forward for guests despite ongoing tight budgets - thanks to all who are pitching in to help!
  • Don't forget to attend Town Meeting tonight and vote on Thursday May 5th - thank you to all the candidates for Selectmen and School Committee for being willing to serve and thank you to Selectman Dana Barrette as he wraps up his years of great service to the town.

Regards,

Kate Bavelock

Congratulations to Ready Rooter for

Build a Better Mousetrap Award!

Each year Cape Cod SCORE has an awards breakfast for a business in each town who has survived the critical first five years of business, and contributes significantly to their community as a business leader.

For 2011 the Sandwich Chamber Board of Directors voted the award to Ready Rooter -

an independent, Sandwich-based company specializing in repair and installation services for plumbing and septic needs. Armed with over 20 years experience, Kevin and Patrick Sullivan, two brothers originally from South Yarmouth, returned to Cape Cod in 1999 to start Ready-Rooter. This locally owned and operated business offers the people of Cape Cod high quality, emergency response services for their plumbing, septic, drain cleaning and heating needs.

Ready-Rooter's ten person staff of professionals consists of licensed plumbers, certified Title V inspectors, trained installers and customer service experts available 24/7 to assist with emergency and maintenance situations. Over the last twelve years, Ready Rooter has become a strong member of the Cape Cod business community. They are proud members of the Sandwich Chamber of Commerce, Business Network International and the Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce. Ready-Rooter is committed to working with local business affiliates to help strengthen the Cape Cod economy. The Sullivan family and everyone at Ready-Rooter are thankful for the company's success over the past decade and are proud to have contributed to many charitable organizations across Cape Cod as a way of saying they appreciate your business! Their regular donations to organizations such as the YMCA, the Jim Lynch Outward Bound Fund and MA Veterans Association help to improve the lifestyles of all those who are fortunate enough to live on beautiful Cape Cod!

A Woman's Work is Never Done

The Sandwich Glass Museum and Sandwich Historical Society is pleased to present a special exhibit, A Woman's  Work is Never Done, through July 12,  whichwill highlight the lives of the women who worked at the Boston & Sandwich Glass Company during the 19th century, both inside and outside the factory setting.  Displayed will be glass, photographs and artifacts from the Museum's collections along with the diaries of Mary and Emma Gregory, who worked at the factory as decorators in the early 1880s.  Their recollections will lend insight into the day-to-day activities of two young working women. A children's activity and a lecture series concerning women in the 19th century will also compliment this year's events.  Join us in stepping back in time and sharing this tribute to our 19th century female counterparts in A Woman's Work is Never DoneThis exhibit is free with admission of $5.00 for adults and $1.25 for children 6-14.
