Member Profile
Cindy Russell
Cindy Russell is the Chairman of the Economic Development Committee for the Town of Sandwich where she feels her committee can make a difference by supporting local entrepreneurs and others, helping them succeed in their business endeavors.
But it's as Chairman of the Glass Town Gala where she takes her passion for her community one step further. Now in its sixth year, the Glass Town Gala (no affiliation with the Glass Museum) is an annual event held in Sandwich for the purpose of raising funds for local non-profits.
Gala fundraising originates in Sandwich - and stays in Sandwich! Each year the committee designates various local organizations to be beneficiaries of this extremely successful fundraiser. The first Gala was held at Sandwich Hollows Golf Club where recipients included the Sandwich Glass Museum, Sandwich Hospice, Project Sail and the Sandwich Council on Aging.
The Gala has partnered with many others as well, including heritage Museum and Gardens, Thornton Burgess, Theater in the Arts Program and the Sheriff's Youth Program. Last year, recipients included the Dexter Grist Mill, Cape Cod Community College, the Grange Hall Coffee House and Adventures Playground at the Oakridge Elementary School.
This year, the Glass Town Gala will be held on October 26, 2007 at the Dan'l Webster Inn & Spa. "We try to mix it up a bit and hold the event in a different location every two years. We were at the Aqua Grille for the past two years. They were wonderful to us. This year the Dan'l Webster is just as excited to host the event and have already put together an unbelievable menu." It will include carving stations, a raw bar, passed hors'doeuvres and more.
The Glass Town Gala is a founding member of the Sandwich Chamber. "I've met so many wonderful people through my affiliation with the Chamber. The Gala can be a lot of work but it's also a lot of fun planning this big party every year." Russell is a native New Englander with ties to Rhode Island, Main and Massachusetts. She and her husband, Bill Diedering, a former selectman, have lived in Sandwich for the past 13 years and are clearly dedicated to their community.
Proceeds from this year's event will be donated to the Council on Aging, the Sandwich Library and the Sandwich Health Association. Tickets are $65.00 each and it is black tie optional. For tickets, sponsorship availability or silent auction donations, please call 508.888.6808. Look for the Glass Town Gala web site, coming soon!
