K/BIS & Coverings 2010 Report
|

| Though smaller in size and attendance than some years past, K/BIS
2010 - in my humble opinion - had a more positive and optimistic vibe
despite the numbers. A smaller footprint and more compact booths gave
the illusion of better traffic.
Nielsen Expositions, the firm that administers and runs the
K/BIS show, predicted more than 35,000 attendees well before the show
started, which represents a 40 percent increase over last year's event
in Atlanta.
"[K/BIS] went beyond our expectations and
generated a lot of early buzz and excitement surrounding the show in
Chicago this year," said Nielsen's Kitchen and Bath Group Vice President Brian Pagel. "We believe this is a sign that the market has
begun to stabilize and hope it's an indication that the industry
will continue to improve."
Mark Karas, president of the NKBA agreed, saying "This K/BIS will always stick out as a fond
memory. We were 30 to 40 percent
above the attendance numbers from last year. Even with the terrible economy, it was great
to see the manufacturers that still sank money into R&D and came
out with great new products."
Read on for more of this K/BIS report, as well as my take on standout companies from the show. Feel free to also check out the videos the team posted from K/BIS on our YouTube channel.

By all measures, Coverings was a successful show. The tile and stone exhibition and conference took place in Orlando
last week, where there was a reported 7
percent increase in attendance over 2009's 22,000 attendees. Zoe Voigt,
tile writer and author of Tile Style shared an observation with which most everyone at the show seemed to agree.
"There seemed to be more people in the aisles, busier
exhibitors and overall the mood was more optimistic [than last year]," she said. "I think the industry is poised
for a
resurgence."
Exhibitors from around the world welcomed attendees with new products
that spoke to a rising optimism. Read on

K&A News Kleber elected to head National Remodeling Foundation I'm honored and thrilled to serve as the organization's president for the 2010-2011 year. Thorough planning is already underway to make this year a great one. John Gordon, director of contractor business at The Home Depot and outgoing NRF President, left big shoes to fill, and I sincerely thank the board for their trust and support.
"We have been really focused on redefining our purpose in
the industry," said Gordon.
"Steve brings a serious tenure
based on his wealth of experience with the industry, particularly with the
National Kitchen and Bath Industry and from the marketing and
communications side of the business." (Read the release)
Giving back to our community and the Earth K&A's annual volunteer project for Earth Day was a great success, as one of our clients joined us in improving a local park. Together with Nichiha, the K&A team worked on a special project, making an important spillway wider and deeper to avoid future overflows. We even got to wear our special Green Team T-shirts made from organic cotton! See the photos on our Facebook page.
