Building Independence

Through assessment, referrals and direct support from Care Closets, our Clearinghouse program and network of churches bring hope, provide basic supplies and surround people in need with individuals willing to walk alongside and support their journey.

Slow economic recovery has families like Lourdes' seeking support as they strive to recover from their life challenges. Please consider a financial gift today, a gift that will bring hope, provide the kind of support that leads to recovery and builds stronger families in our community.

LourdesAs a single mother in school, Lourdes was finding it very hard to make ends meet. "My family is very helpful and encouraging but with the help of the Care Closet once in a while, I can be more independent."

Lourdes just graduated from cosmetology school and will be taking her final state testing. Her plan is to use her learned skills and begin her career so she can provide for her family.

Project Homeless Connect coming to Holland in August 16.

Project Homeless Connect is a one day event that is meant to connect people experiencing profound needs with a place to get connected to many of the services and resources in our community. It is no secret that navigating the complexities of all of the area resources is a difficult task; the hope of Project Homeless Connect is to simplify this process through this one day event and make area resources available to those who need them. This event is about trying to help improve the quality of life for a segment of the population that has vast needs, needs that the community has the capacity to meet. By addressing the core needs of people experiencing housing crisis the process of empowering individual success can begin. Once empowered, individuals can begin solving and meeting their own needs. Essentially, Holland becomes better off because its citizens are better off.

I am only one, but I am one.  I cannot do everything, but I can do something.  And I will not let what I cannot do interfere with what I can do.  ~Edward Everett Hale
