 March 2012

In 2011, Good Samaritan Ministries helped over 700 people in housing crisis. This year alone we've already served over 500 people and have 45 families on our transitional housing waiting list. We assist those in crisis first with our central intake process and continue the journey walking with them to obtain a safe and affordable home. Once immediate housing needs are addressed, mentoring and additional services help bring long term sustainability.

Greetings!

For many of us coming home means feeling secure and safe, having a bed to sleep in, sharing a meal with family, and talking about our day. It's a place to grow up and make memories. But for over 1,700 men, women and children in Ottawa County, home is the back seat of a car or in a tent, nights are spent on the street, in a shelter, or on a friend's couch.

MellisaMellisa's story is one of a new beginnings; the start of a journey that provides hope for a better future. Mellisa and her daughter were homeless, challenged with finding affordable housing as health issues and knee surgery hindered her ability to work full-time. Once they moved into Good Samaritan Ministries' transitional housing, she was supported with mentors, programs, and additional services. Mellisa stands committed to building a better life for her daughter and herself.

"This home has been wonderful and ...everyone's been a great help as I get back on my feet," shares Mellisa.

Stories of hope, like Mellisa and her daughter's, happen because of your support.
