 January 2012

We are so thankful for those who Mentor with us.

It takes a village to raise a child. African proverb

We are proud to work with people who value the role of walking along side others to encourage them as they work to change their lives.

Greetings!

"Thank Your Mentors" day was January 26. We have mentors in several areas and want to bring a special group to your attention.

Imagine being a single parent with children. Your family lives in another state so you are alone and need help. You learn someone is willing to walk with you, to be your mentor. You are hesitant.

One mentor Sheri said, "Being real opens the relationship. Not being afraid to share your own personal struggles helps to build a bridge. Each individual you mentor is different. You do need to let them know you can't fix tsmgroupmentorsheir life but that you will be there for them and will walk with them."

Sheri and her husband Greg mentored many years ago and recently returned to mentoring in a new way. Their church small group decided to join together to make a difference in the lives of others. This means five couples (and children) are mentoring a young mother and her two small children as they work through the 18 month program in our Community Housing Partnership.

Thank you ALL!

We realize not all feel they can give their time as mentors but funding of these programs helps to impact these lives too.

In whatever way you can - take a step to help your community.

Changing the life of one - changes the life of many!

Thank you all for being part of our community of mentors.

To learn and experience more on The Abundant Community,

join us for conversation with author and consultant Peter Block on March 12th, 5:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Resurrection Life Church to kick off a series of Community Conversations in Ottawa and Muskegon counties.

Known for his work in The Abundant Community and Community: The Structure of Belonging, "Block helps us see how we can change the existing context of community from one of deficiencies, interests, and entitlement to one of possibility, generosity, and gifts."

This workshop will inspire authentic conversation, bring to light the gifts in every individual, and challenge us to create new community possibilities.

We want to include the whole community. This event is barrier free and special accomodations will be provided if requested two weeks in advance.
