This past Saturday and Monday, thousands of people from across Texas marched, rallied, and lobbied the legislature in Austin. They went to oppose the Eating-The-Seed-Corn-Insanity of Perry's Plunderers of the Public Purse, those pathetic demagogues determined to cripple the intellectual future of our children, all for a few more pennies in the pockets of the petty-rich rabid reactionaries ruling the Republican Party today. In stark contrast to the gloomy fearful venom wallowed in by the Resentful Right, consider the hope, enthusiasm, creativity, and simple literacy demonstrated by the faces and signs of the people at the marches and rallies, as shown in numerous photos to which you can find links at this page. Meanwhile, the Texas House Democratic Campaign Committee has begun airing a radio ad attacking this nonsense, which you can find linked at this page. |

Precinct Chair 101 training is being offered on Saturday, April 2. This training covers the basics of creating your core group of workers, working on getting to know your precinct and getting out the vote - your most important job! Come at 8:30 AM for coffee and sign-in. Class starts promptly at 9 and will end no later than noon. We are holding this training at the party offices at 4209 Parry. All materials provided. This class is necessary for new precinct chairs and activists while also being a great refresher for those have been working a precinct for years. The party keeps a record of those who attend this class, with the intention that all precinct chairs, new and old, will have taken this class. We will be offering other classes during the year, but this basic one is a prerequisite. We suggest that you bring one or more of your core group of helpers to take this class, so there will be several of you in your precinct who know what needs to be done. With such an important election coming up next year - it is not to early to get to work. Remember that for county offices, the primary may be the most important election next year. You will also have a chance to sign up to get your Precinct Chair business cards ($ 20 ), if you don't already have them, and for sustaining membership (minimum $10 a month or one time $120), so please bring a checkbook. There is limited seating, so please respond by email to phyllis AT dallasdemocrats.org with the names of people coming from your precinct and precinct number. If we get this a week in advance, we will have information for you specific to your precinct. Dress is casual. |

"As the leaders of the Dallas County Democratic Party, we join Chairman Richie in calling upon Dan Ramos to resign as Chair of the Bexar County Democrats. His hateful, bigoted comments have no place in the Democratic Party. We are a party of inclusiveness that supports and promotes equality, diversity, and tolerance. The comments of Mr. Ramos are not reflective of our party's philosophy and we condemn and disavow the comments and the opinions he expressed. Mr. Ramos has proven he does not support nor represent our party's ideals and therefore we call upon Mr. Ramos to resign. Bexar County deserves a true Democrat as the county chair." J. Darlene Ewing, Chair David Bradley, SDEC Senate District 16 Susan Culp Bradley, SDEC Senate District 9 Theresa Daniel, SDEC Senate District 16 David Griggs, SDEC Senate District 8 Ken Molberg, Former County Chair, SDEC Senate District 23 Steve A. Tillery, SDEC Senate District 2 You can read State Chair Richie's statement at this page. There is more on the party response to Ramos from the San Antonio Express-News, his original comments from San Antonio Current, along with a longer background piece, and a report from QSan Antonio, which points out "Oddly enough, Ramos sought the endorsement of the Stonewall Democrats at a candidate forum in January of 2010 when he ran for party chair. At the time he said "I do not condone discrimination."" |
