On Monday evening, December 13, the Dallas County Democratic Party Executive Committee met at the Communications Workers union hall. The meeting lasted only thirty-two minutes before adjourning for the DCDP Holiday Party there. Because Secretary Gary Garcia was absent due to a family illness, Parliamentarian Bill Howell also took the minutes. County Chair Darlene Ewing introduced elected officials present, including State Representative Roberto Alonzo, Judges or Judges-elect Don Adams (already circulating his petition for the 2012 primary ballot), Emily Tobolowsky, Carter Thompson, Doug Skemp, Elizabeth Crowder and Tina Yoo, County Judge-elect Clay Jenkins, District Clerk Gary Fitzsimmons, County Treasurer Joe Wells, Dallas County School Board President Larry Duncan, County Sheriff Lupe Valdez, and SDEC members David Bradley, Susan Bradley, Theresa Daniel, David Griggs, and Steve Tillery. Eleven Precinct Chairs were elected with no opposition to fill vacancies: Maria Amaro 3212, George Freeman 1812, Jennifer French 2110, Robert Neil 1216, Andrew Siegel 1222, David Smith 2502, Ellen Touchstone 3210, Kimble Walker 2213, Damion White 3200, Curtis Wilbert 4101, and Dana Wilson 4626. With no opposition the EC voted to congratulate the party leaders, officers, and staff for their hard work which led to our 2010 victories. Treasurer David Bradley gave a report on party income and spending for the campaign year. Information was distributed on election results by house district, and a list of the changes in Election Judges for the next four years because of results in the Governor's race (Democrats picked up 28 more spots). The County Chair reminded the Precinct Chairs that the first quarter meeting in 2011 will elect members of the Advisory Council. The party office will likely be closed on December 23 and 24 as well as Christmas. It was announced there will be a demonstration this Wednesday, December 15, at 4 PM at the Dallas office of Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison (10440 N. Central Expressway, Suite 1160), calling for her to support the DREAM Act (Development, Relief and Education for Alien Minors), which she had previously supported in 2007 before coming out against the current bill. |
