Welcome; orientation
Legislative committees began meeting in earnest, preparing resolutions for the opening day tomorrow. "Front-loading" the resolutions, if you will (description by Ellen Tillotson). Bishops and deputies attended orientation sessions.

The Presiding Bishop (PB) and the President of the House of Deputies (HOD) gave welcoming speeches. PB's here; HOD prez here. The Convention also learned about the "public narrative" they'll be doing in three sessions while here. The moderator this afternoon was Secretary of Convention Gregory Straub. He was wearing a very bizarre jacket. It looked bright green from a distance. Sean McConnell took this photo. Yikes. Need I say more? The black you see on his white shirt is his name tag badge holder. Straub evidently has a tradition of interesting wardrobe choices.
The Episcopal Church's media hub is live. Check out the young Korean drummers who helped open the exhibit hall today at noon.

I stopped in with the Flip to see John Mitman in the SIM booth in the hall, but he was chasing after his resolutions. They are "hot" right now.
Legislation
Committees working
I have a working list of resolutions to track for Connecticut. Email me directly or through the Diocese of CT's Facebook page to suggest others. We have to wait till they come out of committees before we know their final form; some will be combined. Link to list here.
Central Ecuador bishops
Bp Ramos and Bp Ruiz
Right, former CT Bishop Suffragan Wilfrido Ramos-Orench, who later served as bishop of Ecuador Central, standing with newly elected bishop for Ecuador Central Luis Fernando Ruiz, of Colombia and Gladis Vasquez.
About town
The dancers
In addition to the various Episcopalians at the Marriott, there are tween and teen girls with glittery eyeliner and rhinestoned jackets flitting around. They're here for the L.A. Dance Magic Nationals. The girls (and some boys) learn all sorts of dance -- jazz, tap, ballet, hip hop, etc. There's a fee of a few hundred bucks to attend. There are classes and performances; awards and scholarships; and the kids really enjoy it. I learned all this because as I left my room this morning and was heading down the hall toward the elevators, a woman, a complete stranger, looked at me and said, Going for a run? Let's go together. So we did. Her 10-year old daughter has been going to these for two years. She's part of a local dance studio in her hometown. Girls from the studio go to these "nationals" a few times a year. The woman's husband is back home in Ohio with their other daughter, a competitive swimmer. My new running friend said that next year, she's bringing her whole family back for vacation here in Anaheim.
Coming up tomorrow ...
Convention officially opens
First legislative session takes place 8 - 9 a.m., followed by the opening Eucharist. Legislative committee meetings and legislative sessions. Tomorrow night: special forum on the economy with the Archbishop of Canterbury as special guest. The PB and her Council of Advice (the bishop serving as president/vice  president  of each Province) will meet with him. Bishop Curry serves on that Council.

Let me know how I can help you learn about this General Convention.

Sincerely,
