 Notes From Deb...

The Power That Surrounds Us

Every day, we are surrounded by physical power. In fact, a great part of our competitive success depends on that physical power so we constantly train our athletes to become more powerful.

As owners and managers, we are surrounded with another type of power- brain power and very often, that awesome power is overlooked. This power comes from our employees and co-workers who are defined by a great deal more than their gymnastics knowledge.

When is the last time you asked an employee what they thought? Just asking the question could give you a different view of your employees, convince you of what to do or what not to do, open a door you didn't know existed, and empower those around you because they become more than coaches and employees, they become resources.

Take the time to listen to your employees. Let employees offer suggestions as solutions to problems. Let employees offer new ideas. Give your employees the opportunity to bring up concerns and offer solutions to those concerns.

The people you are working with can be one of your most valuable assets. Tap into that talent pool, and get your employees working with you to make your business stronger. We are very good when it comes to developing physical power, and we need to become better when it comes to using the brain power that surrounds us every day. Include a "brain trust" segment in your next staff meeting. This "what do you think" segment may be a key to an entirely new resource that you are already paying for, but haven't taken advantage of.

It's not too late to join our 2011-2012 tour! Please feel free to contact us for more information.

Sincerely,

Thomas Hawkins and John Williams
