Cover of Smart Watering Guide

With all the cool weather lately, it can be easy to forget that Seattle summers are typically very hot and dry. It makes sense to use smart watering practices in your yard to save water and money, since water rates are higher in the summer. And it helps the environment too, by causing less runoff of pesticides and fertilizers into waterways.

Check out the Smart Watering Guide and other information available on the Seattle Public Utilities site. If you're interested in an automated sprinkler system, there are rebates available for those as well. Everyone wins when we water smart!

GreenSportsAllianceSeattle Center Hosts Green Sports Alliance

In June, Seattle Center hosted the quarterly meeting of the Green Sports Alliance. The Alliance is a recently formed non-profit organization with the mission of reducing the environmental impact of professional sports and to inspire fans to join in these efforts. Founding members and sports venues include the Seattle Mariners/Safeco Field, Seattle Seahawks and Seattle Sounders/Qwest Field, Seattle Storm, KeyArena at Seattle Center, Portland Trail Blazers/Rose Garden, and Vancouver Canucks/Rogers Arena. Additional sports teams and venues are joining the Alliance almost weekly.

The Green Sports Alliance will be hosting a Green Sports Summit in Portland August 1-3. For more information on the Alliance and the Summit visit http://www.greensportsalliance.org.
