CalendarChangeUrgent Calendar Changes
We are still working on some Moodle transition issues.  We have two important changes to our calendar.

TRADITIONAL CALENDAR CHANGE
There will be NO "Meet the Teacher" for all traditional calendar courses in Moodle.  There WILL BE Meet the Teacher for all traditional calendar courses in Blackboard. Students can first access their Moodle Courses on Monday, August 27.  Students can access their Blackboard courses for the first time on Wednesday, August 22.  They can't begin submitting work until the first day of class, though, which is Monday, August 27.

Students can see if they are in Moodle or Blackboard on our login page here:  http://www.ncvps.org/index.php/student-bb-logon/

EARLY CALENDAR CHANGE
NCVPS will not conduct administrative drops for early calendar courses.  Typically, we administratively drop students who do not log in and submit their first assignments by Day 7.  During our Moodle transition, a number of students have experienced log in problems, and our teachers do not have enough data to determine if a student should be admin dropped or not.

Therefore, on Thursday, August 23, we will issue a No Show report in the registration system.  This report will indicate if students have logged in or not.  NCVPS will NOT take any action based on the report.  School advisors must review this report and drop students who they know will not be participating in their early calendar courses by 5pm on Friday, August 24.   This will replace the administrative drop process for the early calendar courses.  We are still planning to run the administrative drop process for traditional calendar courses.

There will be 2 reporting fields on this report:

1. "No show / present?"

"No Show"  response = the student has not logged in and completed at least one assignment.

"Present" response: the student has logged in and completed at least 1 assignment.

2. "Comment"

In this field, instructors can leave feedback on students.

Instructions to remove (drop) a student are here https://docs.google.com/a/ncpublicschools.gov/document/preview?id=1Z21QYmJTngzWLeIXxWmpzf3YdEVEMeHAd-WP-RK6IKU&pli=1

NCAAReporting NCVPS Classes on Transcripts for NCAA Clearing House

We have been working with NCAA to get clarification on how to better help students who are trying to get clearance.  The NCAA understands that NCVPS can't award the grade as we are not degree granting and that the NC public school awards the grades.

We have one solution to share with schools systems. It has been suggested that schools document the classes on the transcripts as such:

Algebra I - NCVPS

Algebra I CR-NCVPS - (for the credit recovery classes prior to Aug 2011) - they will not accept CR classes from Aug 11 forward since we are not longer providing a letter grade.

You can also list the course ID to show the semester, etc:

algebraIsec04spr11 - NCVPS

This example helps them to see what semester etc. this course was taken when they are doing their evaluation as well.

By doing this, it will help the NCAA to know this was an online class with NCVPS and that we do not award the grades. Please make sure you designate NCVPS over just ONLINE CLASS.
LatinLatin 2 & 3 Yearlong Closed
Do to low enrollment, the Latin 2 and 3 yearlong sections will be closed.  Students can still be registered for block or spring.
FallSemesterFall Startup Checklist

Here is a checklist for all of your Fall 2012 informational needs. Contact your VLC if you have any questions!

Contact Information

Be sure each school has accurate e-learning advisor (ELA) contact information in the registration system.  It is essential that our teachers have contact information for an advisor at the school.

This link shows how to update your contact information.

Budget

Summer 2012 enrollments are included in the fiscal year for 2012-2013.  When you are looking at your budget totals in the registration system, be aware that your Summer 2012, Fall 2012, and Spring 2013 enrollments are included in the top 2012-2013 budget line.

Early Calendar Course Closings

Some early calendar courses may be closed due to low enrollment.  We will accommodate any students enrolled in those closed courses in our traditional calendar courses that being on August 27.  All early calendar students in traditional calendar courses will be given the opportunity to complete their courses before the winter break.

Checklists

We have checklists for the district-level and school-level advisors and for students.  Be sure enrolled students have the links to their checklists.

Student Password Issues

Passwords will not work until the first day of our Meet the Teacher program. That date is August 8 for early calendar courses and August 22 for traditional calendar courses. Please remember that students will not gain access to their courses for up to one business day after their enrollment.

If the student's password does not work on the first day of Meet the Teacher, go through the following steps:

1) Confirm that the student is enrolled and not waitlisted.

2) Make sure that the student is logging into the correct site.  Some courses are hosted in the Moodle platform and some are in Blackboard.  Check the list here: http://goo.gl/9vQ2Z

3) If the student is recently enrolled, remember that passwords will not work for 24 hours.

4) If the student is confirmed enrolled and it has been at least 24 hours since enrollment, then have the student submit an online ticket with our Help Center here:

Click on "Open a New Ticket." The student or the E-learning Advisor can submit this ticket. Be sure to include the student's name, Wise number, and course that the student can't access.

5) If a student's password stops working anytime during the semester, have the student submit an online ticket with the Help Center.

This page has awesome information for all stakeholders involved in the OCS Blended Learning program!  Please scroll down to the bottom of the page to see the TRAINING link for classroom OCS teachers.  It would be great if all teachers completed this training prior to August 27, 2012.  Even if teachers have partnered with NCVPS before in the OCS Blended Learning program, we ask all teachers to complete this training as we have added three new pieces!  There is also a new survey for teachers to complete.

Please email Michelle Lourcey (michelle.lourcey@ncpublicschools.gov) with any questions!
