Rosaleen Rhee's new traveling exhibit,Treemonisha: Celebrating African Americans in Classical Music,
opens tomorrow, April 27th, at the Langston Hughes Performing Arts Center in conjunction with the Seattle Symphony Orchestra's free community concert (exhibit opens at 6:00 p.m.).
Treemonisha includes elements that illustrate the lives and works of past African American musicians, as well as audiovisual displays that include interviews with some of Seattle's most accomplished performers.
SMP is honored to be included as part of the exhibit for our work with young people of color. Several members of the SMP community are featured in the audiovisual portion of the exhibit, including students, volunteers and a member of our Board of Directors.
The exhibit will also be on display on May 18th at the Night of Strings performance at Meany Hall on the University of Washington campus (reception starts at 6 p.m.). Please see accompanying article.
Rosaleen studied music at Brown University and will soon finish her degree in Museology at U.W. Her passion for both fields motivated her to create a community music project. "I am so grateful for SMP's support. The work they do brings children new opportunities, new friends, a creative outlet and so much joy in their lives. All children deserve these things, and folks at SMP make it happen."
We are thrilled to be included and hope that many of you will be able to join us for the first showings of the exhibit!
