VOLUME 3, ISSUE 31                                                            April 27, 2012

From Our Superintendent, Merida Brooks
This day I call the heavens and the earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live and that you may love the LORD your God, listen to his voice, and hold fast to him. Deuteronomy 30:19-20

 A MUST SEE MOVIE

  October Baby

"You saw me before I was born." Psalm 139:16 (NLT)

As the curtain rises, Hannah hesitantly steps onto the stage for her theatrical debut in college. Yet before she can utter her first lines, Hannah, unscripted, collapses in front of the stunned audience.

After countless medical tests, all signs point to one underlying factor: Hannah's difficult birth. This revelation is nothing compared to what she then learns from her parents: she was actually adopted ... after a failed abortion attempt.

Bewildered, angered, and confused, Hannah turns for support to Jason, her oldest friend. Encouraged by his adventurous spirit, Hannah joins his group of friends on a Spring Break road trip, embarking on a journey to discover her hidden past ... and find hope for her unknown future.

In the midst of her incredible journey, Hannah finds that life can be so much more than what you have planned.

We will be taking our 9th-12th graders to see October Baby on Wednesday, March 2nd, 9am at the Grand 14 on Kaliste Saloom Rd in Lafayette.  We look forward to how God will use this movie in the lives of our young people.

I encourage you to invest your time in this movie as well. It will be leaving the Lafayette theater May 3rd.

His!

The Lafayette Campus K3 - 4th grades recently celebrated Grandparent's Day. K5 and 3rd grade each performed for the program and then the grandparents were escorted to the classrooms. While in the classrooms the students started with a Bible lesson then showed their grandparents a few of the many things they have been learning. We would like to thank all the grandparents that attended -- our classrooms were overflowing!

Track

For the second time in school history, and first time since 2009, the WCA girls track team captured the Region II-1A Championship at Ul-Lafayette's Cajun Track Tuesday night, outpointing Hamilton Christian 107-99. Three school records were broken during the meet. Alexis Milton eclipsed her own school record in the 100 meter dash with a 12.44 clocking. Milton was also a member of the record-setting 4 x 200 team that ran a 1:47.22, topping the old record of 1:47.27. Other members of that relay were Hydi Kennerson, Martin Wright, and Meagan Bolds. Kennerson, Wright and Bolds teamed with Ivy Cains to break the school's 4 x 100 record at 50.06, breaking the old mark of 50.42. Other first-place finishers in meet were Shelby Hunter in the triple jump with a lifetime best 35-1.5, and Emily Waguespack in the pole vault with a 9-6 effort. Top three finishers in each event qualify to the state meet to be held next week in Baton Rouge at LSU. Representing the Crusaders at the state meet on the girls team will be Waguespack, Hunter, the 4 x 100 and 4 x 200 relay teams, Victoria Olivier in the 1600, Courtlyn Ventress in the shot put, Milton in the 100, Brooke Thompson in the 800, and Milton in the 200.

The boys team finished fourth at Regionals paced by the second place finishes of Thomas Kemp in the 300 hurdles and Josh Devillier in the 800. Also headed to state are Nick Waguespack, who claimed third in the 110 hurdles and Chase Malbrue, who was third in the high jump. The boys will be joining the girls team at the state meet in Baton Rouge next week.

Golf

The Golf team finished third at the Regional Meet in Patterson on Tuesday, finishing behind winner Ascension Episcopal and Opelousas Catholic. The team (Jack Tolson, William Reizner, Dontre Murphy and Kaleb Pope) qualified for the state tournament to be held in Alexandria next Tuesday and Wednesday.
