From Our Superintendent, Merida Brooks
But I will sing of your strength, in the morning I will sing of your love; for you are my fortress, my refuge in times of trouble.
Another wonderful opportunity to have fun, build memories and support Westminster is coming tomorrow, Saturday, February 4th. Our very own Parents' Club is hosting the Crusader Annual Sporting Clay Challenge at G.O.L. Shooting LLC in Maurice. Funds raised from this event will go to support special projects on all three campuses of Westminster.
Parents' Club is an organization made up of faithful WCA parents committed to fundraising efforts to bless our school. Their efforts through various events each year provide cash blessings to our staff and teachers at Thanksgiving and Christmas, classroom wish list items to improve the learning environment for our students and special projects. This year, one of the most visible "special projects" to be completed is the Opelousas Playground. Parents' Club provided a strong foundation of funds raised and donated over the past 5 years. This exciting project was completed by combining the financial foundation laid by the Parents' Club and the equally matched generosity of our parents, grandparents and friends of WCA as they gave through designated gifts raised through our Generations Annual Fund. So as you can see, you won't just be participating in a Saturday Clay Shoot, but helping to build a legacy to impact current and future WCA students. Hope you can make it! His! Community Helpers
Opelousas Preschool
The Opelousas Preschool students have been learning about Community Helpers, focusing on the people in our community whose jobs help us in our everyday lives. Parents are invited to speak to their child's class about the jobs they perform. Recently, the children were asked to dress up like the community helper they would like to be when they grow up. Wendy Dupre, local hair salon manger and mom of K4 student, Owen Scott, shared her skills with Mrs. Carlson's class during Community Helper Month. Mrs. Wendy demonstrated her skills as their teacher, Mrs. Carlson, received a hair cut and style. |
Geography Bee Winners
After a fierce competition, Timothy Kemp emerged as the WCA Champion! Congratulations, Timothy! Second place was Jennifer Johnson, with third place going to fifth grader, Valerie Merritt. Way to go! The next step for Timothy is to take the state level written test. Only the top 100 scores will qualify students to compete at the state level Geography Bee on March 30, 2012. We'll keep you updated! |
Organized Sound
The Fine Arts Class at WCA is a survey of Dance, Art, Drama and Music. The class is designed to help students appreciate all forms of art, discover their own creativity, and to experience all four art forms. Students designed, created, and played their own homemade musical instruments. They also created musical symbols for their instruments in order to present "organized sound" as a group. The most successful students persevered through a process of trial and error as they went back to the drawing board in order to refine their efforts. WCA Fine Arts students are now much more appreciative of the art of music and the musicians (past and present) who have paved the way to the art of music we know today. |
